Took my 82 yr old mom here today. Thought she would enjoy the museum, especially after losing her dog of 13 yrs to a heart attack just 2 days ago. It’s a 40 minute drive. Unfortunately it was the WORST costumer service I’ve ever experienced. I ordered the Gom (sloppy Joe w/ provolone cheese) the cheese tasted like goat cheese & fries, which I had the last & only other time I’d been there over a year ago. It was so good that time I went back for another. But this time it didn’t taste good at all. And the fries were cold and limp. I probably wouldn’t have made an issue of it but one of the employees stopped at our table and asked how everything was. When I told him he responded by saying “Oh I’m sorry about that” and walked away. I also asked him about the limp fries and he admitted that they were not usually like that and stated they had a new cook. He returned about 15 minutes later and asked if everything was still ok. Wth? Still ok?!! No, no everything wasn’t ok 15 minutes ago and it’s still not. Then he tells me he can’t remove the entire price of the sandwich because I ate half of it, which I did not & only 2 fries. When he returned with our bill and hadn’t made any adjustments, I asked for a manager and he told me he was assistant manager and he couldn’t take off the price of the sandwich because I ate half of it, which I hadn’t but I did eat part of my mom’s tenderloin. It was mediocre and I couldn’t finish my half due to gristle. We also each drank a coke. I told him I wasn’t paying for the bad food. I would pay for the tenderloin and our drinks. During this time the other employees chimed in that they didn’t have a way to deducted the bad food. I stood up and said I’m not paying for the Gom and fries. I told him he could call the police if he wanted because I was not paying for it. He proceeded to get another employee, not sure if he was the manager or what. He told me I couldn’t leave without paying our bill. I told him I was happy to pay for our drinks and the tenderloin but not the other. Please keep in mind, I have paid for unsatisfactory food before because I know things can’t always be perfect and I allow for the human equation. Also, I’m a very good tipper, especially this time of year. Why even bother asking if everything is ok if you aren’t prepared to at least make an effort to make your customers happy?! Signed, The customer with the wad of hundred dollar...
Read moreThis was our first time to the place didn't kno it existed cuz we don't live in town but I go to drs every week there but herd about it through the movie thing on tv. Let me just say everything was amazing the 1 star fur service is my only complaint. The food we both got was amazing the fish sandwiches n fries that was so amazing don't change a thing. Price was well worth it too. Then we decided to get ice cream and here's where everything whent wrong and I chalk this just up to bad employees to be honest get better employees mayb. They brought out our ticket already with no ice cream added even though they knew we were ordering ice cream after we told them. So we told them cuz we arnt like that dont steal. Crazy part is they wernt that buisy. But then once we left we realised we were stolen from in the end. First i was brought the entirly wrong ice cream wich was not type i can stand to eat and even the waitress remembered what I ordered n said sry dono why they brought wrong one. And was not warned the 2scoop was so huge at all so i said you know what since u have to redo it please just do the one scopp so i don't waist ur ice cream i won't be able to eat cuz no way can i eat all that. Mayb a serving size or ideas or telling the customer that's like 2 people size when I've had a meal as well prob lol. Well they brought me the smaller right one but then charged us for the big one wich ok fine that's my fualt but then they didn't do the Sunday half off for my hubby so our bill got very expensive in the end and the employees lack of care cheated us when we had just litteraly had them make it right for them so we were not cheating them how messed up is that! She told us the Sundays were half price Sunday well they wernt they charged us full price and for the 2scoops which I had them not do since they had to redo it for their mistake anyway kinda figured they'd redo it for mine. I'll still come back the place n tell others to go but to watch what ur charged for lol atmosphere good was all worth but that was messed up on employees part 2 employees rather since we went out of our way to not cheat them only for them to cheat us. N yet will still recomemd just recomemd mayb new employees training big time they were obv...
Read moreThis is the best restored, fanciest over 100 year old ice cream shop I have ever been too. The ambiance and history of this place is what sets it apart from all other ice cream shops. One side has all the seating and ice cream and the other side truly is a museum displaying all sorts of 100 year old ice cream and soda dispensers. They have a small gift shop area of wooden toys other items kids back in the day played with before technology, ha.
The intricate detailed metal tile inlay ceilings, hand carved wood work, solid marble counters, marble dispensers, huge mirrors, old time cash registers, and even the light bulbs were of a 100 year old design. This place was meticulously restored as it was 100 years ago. If you're in the area and do not even want ice cream or anything to eat, this place is worth the stop just to see the rich history of items on display and still in use.
They also have several historical and restored to working operation, huge wall units that are musical self playing, with horns, drums, triangles, and other instruments all built inside that play from a rolling paper with programmed musical songs on it.
There was a wait for 10 to 30+ minutes, and the service moved at a slow pace, due to what seemed like not enough employees to handle the non-stop constant flow of customers. The staff worked fast and hard non-stop, but just could not keep up with the amount of customers. They can seat parties of all sizes up to 300 people if you wish to rent the entire building for a special occasion. They do not skimp on serving size, and 1 dip is a very large scoop of ice cream, and they put on plenty of toppings as requested.
We did not try the hot food, which they offer all types of hot dog combos, tenderloins, sloppy joe's, and more. We did have the ice cream which was excellent tasting. Prices seem on par for this type of place. The banana split was huge, and they even offer a monstrous 5 scoop bowl of ice cream, which looked almost like a half gallon of ice cream, ha. This is a great alternative to all the modern ice...
