We LOVE this place under its newer ownership! We used to live by a WG Grinders on the east side, and frequented it. We were thrilled to still have one nearby us when we moved. My husband love love loves the turkey reuben (I do, too) and cheddar mac, and my children love their Italian sub, meatball sub, pizza subs/flatbread pizzas, and chicken parmesan stromboli. (they also the cheddar mac, and I love their pasta salad). I love the wide variety of the menu. When we first visited it, the old owner was just insufferable. He was incredibly rude, seemed penny-pinching (got angry at me the first time we came in and tried to use a Grinders coupon there, growling at me that HIS franchise didn't participate in coupons) (we literally got this coupon out of a mailing that was sent to us), and he just generally seemed irritated that we dare enter his store, order his food, and make him work. We sadly stopped going after just a couple/few times. THEN, a couple years later we saw a "NEW OWNER!" sign, and now we are back!!
The new owner is wonderful. She is always cheerful and friendly, and tries to help any way she can. We have started using this store for Catering, and they always go above and beyond. They are very accommodating, and she seems to genuinely care about making sure we are happy with their food and service. We use them for pre-game meals for my son's high school teams, and have been so happy with their services that we've extended their catering services to the two middle schools that feed into the high school. They truly care about getting the kids' meals correct (which is no easy task with more than 200 individual weekly meals for these young athletes), she takes food allergies very seriously (which is sooo important and so appreciated), and she has been super patient with changes and adjustments. Just last week, we had an away game added at the last-minute, and everyone forgot about setting up the kids' meals. I contacted them about an hour before the kids' bus left, and I cannot believe how quickly they got these kids & coaches their (custom) meals. She's the best! (Her staff is always sweet and genuine, too!)...
Read moreI bought a stromboli from this location and it was raw on the bottom. I bought it for my lunch and I bought a pizza for my daughter which turned out to not be a pizza at all. It was more of a french bread with sauce and cheese. When I found out that the stromboli was raw it was too late for me to bring the stromboli back because I had to get my daughter to nap in enough time before I had to go pick up my husband. So I called them and let them know. The current lead there told me to just come in and get a new one when I could. He didn't say anything about bringing the one they messed up. It was supposed to be my lunch so I did their job and cooked it the rest of the way in my oven because I didn't have time to go back and I had nothing else to eat. So later on after my daughter woke up and it was time to get my husband I made the call to the restaurant to see if it could be done. The guy who answered changed the original leads response and then said I needed to bring in the raw stromboli to get a refund and he said the original lead was told to call me back and tell me that. He never did and it seems as though he lied to the manager and said that he did call me back. Needless to say poor customer service. Not coming back even though I have really liked Grinders...
Read moreI have food allergies and sensitivities, so I am always extra cautious when I go to a new place. The folks here took my issues quite seriously, checking ingredients on their special sauces and making sure I knew which items to avoid or which items could be modified to accommodate my food needs. They made sure to use a separate knife when cutting, spreading sauces, etc, to avoid cross contamination. The gentleman we were primarily working with to order said he cooked in the army and had to go through rigorous food safety training there, including managing food allergies for their troops.
Grinders also has a gluten-free breading option (my issues are with dairy and pepper [the seasoning], but the GF bread is also DF so I was able to eat it without issues). Seriously, I can't express how grateful I was for the level of service we received. I don't live in Columbus, but I've found a new sandwich place when I'm there with my boyfriend, and we are both happy to have...
