We had guests from out of town this past weekend, and we had hoped to treat them to a nice evening of cocktails and dinner. On Friday, I made our reservation for Saturday at 7:30 for our party of 4, and confirmed the reservation. We arrived exactly at 7:30 eager for a pleasant dining experience. The young hostess upon our arrival received us in a "what are you doing here" manner, and directed us upstairs without an explanation. The bartender met us at the top of the stairway and explained there were no tables available, as there were large parties that evening. (Why had I not been told this upon making the 7:30 reservation for 4?) The very busy bartender, who was the only upstairs server, invited us to wait at the bar - not knowing just how long we would have to wait for a table. (Out of embarrassment mostly for our guests, my husband did not react well - for which he later apologized.) The bartender provided a complimentary cocktail to each of us (with A LOT of ice which filled the glasses). This was somewhat an adequate gesture of apology. Forty-five minutes later we were seated at an upstairs uncovered cafeteria-style table for 4 under a bright recessed light -which was more like a blinding spot-light shining in our eyes throughout dinner. We ordered the Deep South Duck Rolls appetizer which was quite tasty but consisted of only one roll sliced into 4 thin wedges surrounded with a lot of greenery to fill the plate. Next, we ordered entrees - which took very close to an hour to receive!! Our guests said they enjoyed the Chicken Marsala, and I hope they were not just saying so to appease our embarrassment at this point. My husband had the Pecan Crusted King Salmon, with much greenery surrounding the portion, which he said tasted "adequate" but was not impressed with any outstanding flavor, and his meal was served lukewarm. I ordered the 8 ounce Filet/Medium priced at $32 - Yes, the flavor and texture were very good! HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT AN 8 OUNCE PORTION! HALF OF IT HAD BEEN CUT AWAY!!! THE FILET AND THE VEGETABLES WERE BARELY LUKEWARM!!! I did not say a word about this at dinner because the evening had already become so disappointing and I did not want to add ANY more negativity! Our guests ordered carrot cake which they said was delicious. My husband and I ordered caramel cake which turned out to be very dry. ... By then it was well past 10:00 PM, my husband paid the expensive bill and left a very generous tip for the busy bartender/server BECAUSE he felt terrible about his reaction upon our arrival ... In conclusion, we will not be patrons of The...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place because I chose it to celebrate my birthday after hearing people rave about it for lunch, dinner, and drinks.
When I arrived i was awkwardly greeted and directed to the “birthday group” with two different directions - oddly enough when I got into the actual room my friends were the only ones there, so I was confused about why they didn’t know where to direct me.
I ordered the “Fountain of Youth” & the Lamb Burger (substituted sweet potato fries for bacon wrapped asparagus because the waitress offered different options for sides). I don’t really know what the drink was supposed to taste like but it wasn’t something I would ever order again. The burger was unfortunately completely dry and I even checked if it was supposed to come with anything since it looked like it was just on a bun without anything else. It appeared it had two slices of pickles and some cheese on it.
My friends chicken was cold and still had pink raw spots. Drinks were not refilled & upon pointing out that the chicken wasn’t cooked properly the little atmosphere, that this place had, went completely down south.
They did offer to recook the portion of the chicken that they said wasn’t undercooked but actually a vein that just made it seem like it was undercooked. She received her meal in a to go box and didn’t have to pay for it. Repeated remarks about it not in fact being undercooked made it even more awkward.
Another one of my friends had the “vacation” drink and had ordered a second one. It must have stood at the bar until she said she was done with her food and didn’t need to have her second drink.
At the end the manager brought out a selection of desserts and apologized for the confusion on the “vein of the chicken”
I was definitely disappointed as I really looked forward to the evening. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with friends and feel embarrassed. It made me wonder if that was the reason why the entire evening we were the only group there apart from another couple that must have been there...
Read moreFirst I will start with the POSITIVES... Our server was excellent. He was the bartender upstairs and took care of everyone at the upper level he did really well for having to take care of so many people on his own. He made an excellent strawberry margarita. Now for the not so great. The ATMOSPHERE upstairs is nothing like the restaurant downstairs. It's a dark bar. So if your going for a nice dinner date and they say they only have availability upstairs, go somewhere else. They don't even have candles on the table and overall it doesn't seem like they put any money to make it nice up there. Bathrooms are only downstairs and they do not match the decor of restaurant. I would say they did not put any money into the bathrooms when decorating the rest of the restaurant. FOOD QUALITY: Not comparible to prices. My husband and I got the Delmonico steak and it came with 2 pieces of Broccoli Rabe & 5 cherry tomatos partially grilled(?) & 3 small pieces of a purple carrot- we didn't even know what it was at first. The steak was on a bed of mash potatoes. For a $44 meal, it wasn't appealing and presentation was lacking. 2 of my friends ordered short ribs and I can guarantee you, it was not short ribs, it was pot roast. I've had short ribs countless times and what they brought out was absolutely not that. I don't know how they in good conscience could even call that short ribs. Dessert was "Apple Turnovers". I had to get them taken off of my ticket. They were uneatable. Not baked all the way through and seems like the dough came from the can. Flavor was not good at all. Caramel ice cream that came with it was good! Don't think I have any desire or need to go back....
