This is Conroe's original brewery... they now occupy their 2nd and new permanent location. This is a great brewery serving great craft beers. The three original year round beers Blond Bombshell, Pine Belt Pale Ale, and Buried Hatchet Stout... have now been joined by the Conspiracy Theory IPA. The brewmaster Dave also does several seasonal/specialty beers including Spring Pils, Summer Saison, Okoberfest, Winter Warmer, Half Nelson IPA, Honest of Reason IPA, Garden State Hefeweizen, Negura Bunget Dark Ale to name a few. This brewery has an indoor taproom and lots of room outside too. They offer some food offerings in the taproom and will sometimes have a food truck. This is a great place to visit and drink some outstanding beers. I highly recommend a visit if you enjoy craft beer! Plus... their taproom is climate controlled... in this part of Texas that is a nice thing in the summer.
I have been returning to Southern Star now for ten years.... The general deal is you get a free glass and three pints for $10. However, when they first opened... if you purchased a glass, they would give you four pints for FREE.... and if you returned with their glass they would fill your glass four more times every Saturday for FREE. Unfortunately, insurance, liabilities, and greater success has ended this promotion... but this is still...
Read moreI’ve been here quite a few times but when I went last weekend it was after a year long hiatus. I’m a fan of Bombshell Blonde and Pinebelt. During one of their fests they mixed the two for a dirty blonde and it was yummy! So it is with that in mind what we visited them this past Saturday. The format has changed, you used to be able to buy a pint glass and get a predetermined amount of pours with higher alcohol content beers counting as two pours. Now you get one beer on the house with a tour, not a premium, and purchase the rest for $3 to 6 each.
The tour itself was nothing special. They are on the smaller side compared to St. Arnolds or Karbach but I would still expect maybe some fun facts or anecdotes. Nada. Was nice to see all the pretty cans stacked though. They also have a sampler too. I will say nothing stood out to me this time around. The Pinebelt and Bombshell were good as usual but none of the new offerings stood out. The warehouse has large tables inside and out so it is nice to seat and have a glass or two and the prices beat going to a bar. Oh and they had a hot dog stand on site with some unique offerings. I liked the “PBJ” (peanut sauce and jalapeno jelly) hot dog I got and would have tried another but we had...

What these words mean....
"We here at Southern Star Brewing are so open-minded, tolerant, and magnanimous that we don't allow people to speak freely about what they believe, especially if we disagree with it! After all, we make beer for people who don't mind being censored or censoring others!!!! Beer making, and the simple-minded people who love it more than their freedom to speak about the values they hold dear, is FAR more important that my rights, your rights, or anyone's rights!!! We made a contract, a promise if you will, and we feel that in the name of political bigotry and censorship we should break that promise and cancel all events at our venue that we could possibly potentially disagree with - beginning, of course, with one event in particular!!! We won't tell you what that event is, because that would make us look bad, especially to the mainstream political demographic in rural Texas, who we despise. Thank you for buying our beer! And here we have a paper copy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights that you can throw darts at while joyfully drinking our beer!!! Wouldn't that be FUN!!!! (Nobody takes those documents seriously these...
