Update to below review: I receieved a call from the floor manager later this evening and was informed it was busy earlier in the evening and she did not have time to take care of the situation. Needless to say, She made everything right and went above our expectation and rectified the situation. I have never had a bad experience up to this point and always love getting the best service and food from domo so tonight was out of the ordinary.
I have been going to Domo Cafe for 4 years. I’ve always ordered the exact same order. Creamy Crunchy shrimp bowl Spicy level 2. I have tried level 0,1,2 and 3 on the spice levels and have found over the years that level 2 is perfect for me. Today i made a large order for family in town and recommend the same order for some family members. After picking up the food and sitting down at the table at home we tried everything and the shrimp was EXTREMELY spicy compared to normal, almost unbearable and i can handle spice. Also the sauce was very minimal and it was almost like it was all chili oil. The korean spicy bowl that was level 2 as well was not overly spicy at all. I decided after nobody wanted both meals that i was going to call and see if we could get both bowls of shrimp comped as everyone’s appetite was completely lost after the overly spicy shrimp bowls. After waiting for the manager she said that “They make the bowls the same every single time and there is no way it could be that spicy compared to normal” Now when i say i’ve had this meal a lot i mean probably over 50 times in the past 4 years. It has NEVER been this spicy. The only thing the “manager” wanted to do was make a new exact same bowl right now. I don’t 1. feel like driving all the way there and back 40 minute round trip and 2. have any appetite for the meal at all. When asked if i could come get the same bowl tomorrow and hope it’s better so my family members can try, the manager said no and that she knows it couldn’t have been that spicy. I am so upset and mind blown of the lack of care for the loyalty of a customer who always raves and recommends Domo...
Read moreRecently moved to the area and enjoyed this restaurant thoroughly the first few times I ventured out. Yesterday, we went there for lunch around 1pm and I bit down on a suprisingly large chunk of glass in the Japanese potato salad. I didn't want to make a deal out of it, but I did want to let the employees know because if it wasn't prepared in house, they needed to notify their distributor that the shipment could have been contaminated and needed replacing... if I bit down on glass, someone else could too and be injured in the process. We notified the staff and the cashier came out and typically said their policy is a full refund, which we agreed to. The cashier left for a moment, and then returned and stated that her manager said a refund would be "too difficult" and "mess up the system" so she offered us another meal... same exact thing.. to go for free. So in compensation, we're down from a full refund to a $7 replacement of the exact meal I found the glass in in the first place. The issue is not that I found the glass in the food in the first place; the issue is the fact the manager was notified of it and didn't make an appearance or compensate for it properly. She sent a cashier to do the work for her, an employee who's not paid to deal with these sorts of liability issues, and thus it was handled unsatisfactorily. I managed in a restaurant for years and know from experience that sometimes, unexepected things happen, but you have to deal with it and recover the guest in the best way possible, and that did not happen in this case. I loved this restaurant previously, but I will not be returning, and I suggest that not only do they contact their distributor about the potato salad and have it replaced, but they need to coach their managers on proper steps for guest recovery, regardless of whatever else...
Read moreYou would never know from the parking lot, but this small restaurant was PACKED when we arrived. It was our very first visit and I wished I'd known ahead of time how they run things. Before you go, check out the menu online and choose what you want to eat. There is a cooler right by the register with Hawaiian drinks, sake, soju, beer and more. When you arrive, get in line for the register! Order your food and drinks at the register, pay, then they will seat you. You can leave an open tab at the register for ordering more food and drinks. We were holding up the line because we were first timers, and the servers were very kind. They seated us and allowed us to have traditional table service. When you arrive they greet you with a hearty "DOMO"! The servers are all very friendly and extremely helpful. They have recommendations for their favorites if you are torn between 2 rolls or which appetizer or Ramen to order. Now for the food! I wish I'd taken photos. Everything was nicely presented. We had the Domo bun. The combination of pickled veggies and pork with the bun were perfect! The Japanese basil wrapped tuna, battered and fried had the most delicious flavor. We dipped our sushi rolls in its leftover sauce. 😀 We had 2 rolls that were tasty on their own and accented more by the sauce from the above appetizer. We really like Terra beer, so we shared one. We tried soju (original flavor) for the first time. My husband liked it. It was a tad too sweet for me, but I rarely like sweet drinks. Soju is meant to be taken like shots, so we shared and sipped. We WILL be returning for more. We didn't get to the Ramen so it's next on our list as well as the many rolls we also want to try. Btw...many people ordered take-out. So if busy isn't your style, but flavor IS!, get take out. You won't be...
