We used to go to this place once a week. We loved it and it was our "go to" Mexican restaurant. UNTIL...one day, my wife and I went in to eat and the place was almost empty.Wonderful, we thought, because the service will great! We were seated and a waitress that we had never seen before came over, slung a basket of chips on the table along with salsa and turned around and left. About five minutes later she returned and asked if we wanted something to drink and we said yes. She then asked what we wanted to order and my wife told her that we would like cheese dip first and then, after we had a chance to look at the menu and eat our dips and salsa, we would order. She did not like this at all! She did not like that we did not go ahead and place our order at that time! She brought the cheese dip and asked if we were ready to order, which we were. She had no personality and she acted like we were bothering her by just being there. We placed our order and finished our chips and dips. She came back 15 minutes later with only my dinner and not my wife's. She just walked of with no explanation so I asked her to come back. She stated that since my wife had "insisted" on having grilled chicken in her quesadilla instead of shredded chicken that it has "messed up her order!" We were getting very pissed off at this time for the nasty way she seemed to be treating my wife when my wife had done nothing wrong! I put my fork down and refused to eat until my wife's dinner also came to the table. Finally, after 15 minutes, she brought out my wife's food. By then I had gotten so mad that I had lost my appetite and I asked for two to go boxes. This lady, who is obviously Mexican and around 50 years old, was so crappy to my wife while being very nice to me and all of the others around us, for no reason, had really pissed me off! We love this restaurant and would love to go back but when we walked out that door I swore we would never go there again! The food is wonderful and the service is really usually great but that one lady has caused us to never return! Oh, and her tip?? Twenty-five (0.25) cents..just to let her know that I had not forgotten to leave a tip. And frankly, her service wasn't...
Read moreMy family and I dined in on the 27th of November 2016 and I ordered a margarita which never showed up, our appetizer didn't come out until AFTER our entrees and the waitress acted really frustrated and commented on it being the kitchens fault instead of just apologizing or asking if we still wanted it. Then when we asked her about my margarita she pretended like she didn't forget to put in the order. Like the bar just never made it. Strike two. They weren't very busy- this was 3/4pm but she acted like she was weeded the whole time so she most likely forgot we ordered or forgot to put it in. So I said forget it. Clearly she wasn't interested in making things right but more concerned that this would hurt her tip. She just kept asking if I was sure I didn't want it anymore. I wanted one with our app that never came and honestly the whole experience wasn't going well so we were ready to leave instead of spending more money there. I would have drank it if she brought it anyway and which she should have done as well as taken the app off the ticket but she didn't do any of that. I'm sure she didn't tell the manager. It sucks because I've been going here for years and used to love it. Unfortunately we have had more negative experiences than positive in recent months and I think it's time to go down the street instead. Better service and...
Read moreMy family of five visited El Molcajete #3 on a Saturday evening at around 6:30pm. We were promptly seated in an L-shaped booth by the front door. The restaurant was half-full; I would barely call it busy.
An expressionless employee sat a basket of chips on our table with two bowls of salsa and left without saying a word. Not a "Hello", not a "We'll be right with you"--just nothing. The chips were completely stale, cold and chewy. The salsa? Unremarkable. We sat there for some time waiting to be greeted. The same employee came back three minutes later and sat a second basket of chips and two more bowls of salsa on our table and walked away--again without say a single word to us. I looked at my wife and we agree to stay a few minutes later to give them a chance. We must have sat there with our entire dinner order ready for 10 minutes total without a single greeting.
To show just how oblivious and out-of-touch this restaurant is, we got up out of our booth and on the way to the door the hostess told me "Thank You".
El Molcajete should be ashamed of themselves. I had to explain to my children why we got up and left (as we have not done that before). I told them that when you go to a restaurant to spend your hard-earned money you should never feel unwelcome and...
