Being from Chicago, a city with a thriving “Chinatown”, I find myself frequently missing the Cantonese style of Chinese restaurant cooking found there. So, after recently watching a YouTube video about a Chicago virtual restaurant named “3 Little Pigs Chi”, where the chef makes Char siu, I really found myself missing it, now that I live and work mostly in Maryland. A customer work order took me to Alexandria Monday October 24th, and so while there I did a quick Google search for char siu near my location. Miu Kee was 18 minutes and 7 miles away. As soon as I was done with that job I had to go.
The pictures of their food looked amazing. Their customer reviews were good for the most part, and the location kind of reminded me of Chinatown back home. Now being a six foot one inch tall soul Brotha, I tend to stick out walking into a Chinese restaurant. I can say that I was seated quickly, and treated well throughout my entire meal, which consisted of a plate of Char siu and some pan fried potsticker dumplings. I washed it down with a sprite. The plate of Char siu was on my table only minutes after I ordered it. The potstickers on the other hand, took so long in coming that I ended up taking them to go. In spite of that they both were excellent dishes.
My waitress told me to come back again soon. Even though I live a good hour and a half away in St. Mary’s county in Lexington Park, I intend to do just that.
What a wonderful restaurant and an overall good dining experience. One I look forward to repeating soon. By the way, the Char siu did not disappoint. It was excellent!!!
I got exactly what I wanted. That, my friends, is what life...
Read moreI hope the boss of this restaurant can see my feedback, thanks. Your staffs was trying to make the tip as the mandatory to the customers and asked them to tip more.
I came there yesterday with my family as a group of 5 people, we ordered food and the food was good but some were too sweet. However, everything was fine until I came to the service table to pay for the meals while my mom was handling the staff $10 tips. After that, he brought that $10 tips up front where I stood to asked me “Only $10 tips?” and I was like “Yes, we tipped you that much”. His face turned to be any angry face and told that to another woman staff and then she came to me to teach me that “If you went to here as a group of 5, I must count that you should tip 15% and that was the basic tip and however, it was up to you”. I was like “It was up to me so I tipped you that much, what would you as for more?”. She tried to teach me as many as she could until I was exhausted and brought more $5 to tip more.
If you want to charge for a group of people service, just note down on a paper like other restaurants not just until we come pay you and try to tell the customers that you should tip more since we came here ti enjoy your foods and we might come another times if you won’t say that to the customers. Thanks, your foods are good but your services and the tip mandatory from your staffs are very awful.
Thanks...
Read moreThe food here use to be so good a few years ago, their wonton noodle soup is still pretty solid and probably the best wonton soup I've had in the area. I've noticed the portion sizes have gone down while prices of the dishes have gone up. I get it, the economy and what not.
However, the service is awful. I understand that they are short staffed and the restaurant itself isn't "Americanized", I didn't expect 5 star service, but I also will NOT tolerate receiving bad service needless to say service at all, then to have them automatically add an 18% tip onto my bill for a party of 5. Generally at many restaurants I've been to, automatic gratuity is noted at the bottom of the menu or something for larger parties of 6-8 or more. When the bill came out, it was just a receipt for me to sign with the "total, gratuity (automatically there), another line for "tips", and total again for the entire bill"; I asked for an itemized list to see if everything I ordered was counted for and if I wasn't charged for anything extra...they apparently "couldn't" provide it. I like to see what I am paying for to double check, needless to say I most likely...
