Shanks Town Tavern — Restaurant in Cooper City

NEVER GOING BACK!! I felt pressured by 2 waitresses/bartenders at the same time! We were a group of 10 and we just came from another establishment where I ate dinner and had a drink. We went to Shank for the first time to see our friends sing karaoke so the first impressions as we walked in were: 1. It was hot but bearable. 2. It was half empty on a Saturday night. Not a big deal, just an observation. However, there wasn’t enough room for my husband and I to sit with our friends around a table so we sat at the bar that was near them and the bar was half empty anyway. When my husband got up to play a round of pool, 2 lady bartenders asked me if I was going to order something. I said no thank you, (as I just finished a drink not long ago). I swear they both looked at me with such a dirty look and then looked at each other as if I either didn’t speak English or like I had two heads because the look I got was undeniable. I was confused as to what was going on. I told them that I was with that group, as I pointed to my friends and told them there’s no room for me to sit with them and that my friend was also currently singing, as I pointed to him. One told me she thought that was weird because I was in an establishment. Weird?? I have never in my entire life felt how these two made me feel. They literally ganged up on me when my husband wasn’t around and their tone wasn’t friendly. The pressure I felt was unreal. I would understand not sitting at the bar if it was full but it wasn’t and there were plenty of seats. Not only was I definitely not buying anything after that but I’m never going back. I completely understand that an establishment needs to make money but if you treat your customers like trash, trash is the review they are going leave.

And for the 2 ladies - Be kind to your customers. These are tough times and I understand you wanted me to buy something but giving me dirty looks and saying it was “weird” that I wasn’t ordering anything isn’t the way.

My reply to your “It’s called customer service and entertainment is for paying customers” response: You sure have a funny way of showing customer service. I was with a large group and they were buying. I don’t HAVE to buy anything. Especially, when I already spent enough money beforehand. My husband and I weren’t even there but 40 minutes max. This is the only establishment that I’ve ever been to that has put me in this situation. If I would have enjoyed myself I would have gone back another time and spend money with my friends but now that’s never going to happen. I have been coming here for 12+ years and it is great. Terri and her crew do a wonderful job at all times. I have seen a local moron named ANNETTE LAUBSCHER offering a truly ignorant and misguided negative opinion about Shanks and I am moved to remark on her truly foolish "review." Annette seems to think that she can barge into bars, linger for nearly an hour, not order a single thing, and then cry about "feeling pressured" when the bartenders ask her what she'd like to order. This moron Annette claims to have been with her alleged "husband" and/or part of a "group" but how is a bar supposed to know this? And, even if true, why would that entitle Annette to occupy space at the bar when not ordering or paying for a single thing? Annette seems not to understand commerce, or the very idea of commerce.

Annette cries about feeling "ganged up" on. Annette cries about being given "dirty looks." For your information, Annette, it is indeed weird to walk into a bar, sit at the bar for over forty (40) minutes, not order anything, and then vaguely refer to your "friend singing karaoke" as some sort of "justification" for failing to order a single thing while in a BUSINESS...

This bar stinks. The ownership is unprofessional and operates inappropriately. I attended my friend Bobbi's birthday karaoke party today. Part way into the show, they canceled the show for a Jets game. Never told the karaoke host they were doing it, so singers who attended were left out from singing. They shut the game off that I was watching with 2 minutes left. Jets fans came in and started setting up tables blocking my view. On top of all that, I went to the bathroom and when I returned my drink was gone and my table was occupied by Jets fans. I paid my bill, filed a complaint with the owner, who didn't care, and left.
