Pro's: They survived the pandemic! They are still able to keep a buffet going with reasonable prices and a huge selection, even with rising food costs and universal staff shortages. They have a variety of foods, both Chinese and American. The staff is kind and friendly. If you are courteous back and leave a big tip during a slow time, you get to feed the fish. 😄 There are plenty of fresh dishes to pick from, even when you are there between peek meal times. I've added pictures of some of my favorite dishes and plan to add more as I continue to visit. It costs significantly less to feed our family here than it does to get carryout pizza and with the tasty veggie options, it's a lot healthier too. I used to be a manager in dining services and can attest that the food is kept at proper temperatures and nothing appears out of food code. Con's: They are currently using disposable dinnerware rather than their traditional dinnerware that they used before the pandemic. I'm assuming this is a big part in why they are able to keep the buffet going, and going without greatly increasing the prices. I'm glad they use paper plates, but wish they would use paper cups and straws too and let patrons select only the plastics (eg. forks, spoons, & knives) that they really need from the buffet station. Sometimes some of the dishes are too salty, but not always, it probably depends on who is cooking. The soups and meats have great flavor, but would be a lot better if they were covered so they don't get dried out. Overall, this is a great place to go as a family for a special dinner out.

We went here with a group of 10 friends after an event last weekend. We usually go to Hong Kong Buffet and enjoy it immensely, but were told of this place & decided to try something new. The restaurant was hopping with patrons so we were seated in the back dining room. There were two large tables available but for some reason the host chose to seat us at the back one which was right next to the soda fountain & the cart where they were clearing plates and stacking the dirty dishes. Normally I would not mind this except that the waiter and hostess kept scowling and pushing past us, bumping into our chairs every time they needed to walk back there. We felt hovered over and as if we were in the way. The waiter, a young man in either his late teens or early twenties, who chose to seat us there in the first place, points to my three year old granddaughter and asks, "How old is the kid?" Needless to say, I was unimpressed. The restaurant seemed clean and most everything was full and fairly fresh. The food was adequate, some was even delicious, however, our experience was dampened my their rude treatment. Rather than seating in where we would clearly in their way and then acting disgusted and pushing past us every two minutes, we should have been seated at the other table and my beautiful three year old granddaughter is a little lady, not just a "kid". He needs to learn some respect.

Start off by walking in during lunch hour and there were very low amounts food in the bins. I went through the whole selection and couldnt find any main dishes that were stocked. The only thing that was good was the grille that was made fresh in the corner which the staff did do a good job of. I assume the food bins were low from the lunch rush but it took 20 mins to get them restocked which isnt ideal at a buffet. The restaurant only uses plastic cups, plastic silverware, and paper plates, which all felt really cheap. I mean I could understand if it was when restaurants were just opening from covid and trying to stay hygienic, but they used the same cup to refill my drink so it made little sense to me. Trying to save money not paying someone to wash dishes? Why couldn't we just have regular silverware and glassware? Also the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. It stunk, looked run down, and not clean at all. I've been to some sketchy bar bathrooms that were in better shape. I normally am very lenient on stuff like this but this was really gross. I would have been happier elsewhere. Only bright spot I took was the grille which I took a photo of the food. I would recommend just going somewhere else. Hopefully the owners take stride in improving this place which I once enjoyed eating.

I went to this horrible place called a chinese buffet last night. My kids are under two and the lady questioned me about my sons age! We get sitted there is only one high that i see so i use that for my littlest. Go get their food then mine. My oldest starts getting off the chair and running. I finally ask about another high chair the lady kept saying corner, corner couldnt understand what she was saying... So i sat back down and my son once again got back up and this time ran behind the register. I follow and the lady ask if i can control him. Are you serious thats why i asked for the high chair!! Once again go and sit back down and this guy comes out he stops there talking in their language hes staring and pointing talking. I finally go up ask if the lady is the owner. Said no, i asked for the owner, her owner no here, k well call them i want to talk to them, her what you problem, what you problem. I finally say my problem is you guys i ask for a high chair you wont get me one then when my child goes behind the counter you ask if i can control them?! Thats why i asked for the high chair!!! At this point my child is refusing to go into the high chair im in tears cause im so mad and fustrated we finally leave. I barely got to eat any of my food. One cause my child was misbehaving and two i just wanted to get out of there cause they made me feel like i was a burden and they humiliated me. I leave and call and ask when i manager will be in. What the matter in a rude tone the lady said. I said i dont care to talk to you just let me know when the manager will be in. So i call today and the manager was just as rude!!!! How you know they talking about you do you speak Chinese? How you know. CLEARLY when i can see him staring at me point and talking they are talking about me!! I wanted a refund one because i barely ate and the service they said no couldnt do that that there was nothing...

Whenever my son has to go to the University of Iowa for his appointments, he always wants to go to this place. It has really gone downhill in the last couple of years, and now even my son doesn't want to go back! On Valentines Day, it was beyond belief awful!! Waiter acted like we were bothering him for service. All the food had no taste to it (didn't think there was a way to screw up Egg Drop soup, but this place found a way). Even my son's Sprite tasted moldy and old, I had to take the drink up to the waiter (because he never came back), and tell him that the Sprite was bad. My hot tea tasted like hot water. My son used their bathroom, and he came back to our table recommending that I don't use it, because there was toilet paper all over the floor, and it had somebody's "business" all over it! Waiter brought us our ticket, asked us to pay, and I said I would be going up to the front to pay for the meal (this part had nothing to do with the waiter, I just don't let my credit/debit card out of my sight no matter where I go) . He follows me up to the front, cashes me out, I sign the slip. Once he saw that I did not tip, he slams his hand down on the counter, yelled something to me in Chinese, and stomped away. I stayed there and complained to the next employee who came to the counter, but since she was not there to hear what he said, she could not help me. 30 minutes later, I called the place to complain to management, and the same lady that spoke to me at the counter answered the phone...she was the Manager!

I could see with reading the other reviews, that Waiters cussing in Chinese at patrons that don't reward terrible service with a tip, is not an isolated occurrence at Peking Buffet. How sad that management, in any establishment, would not be horrified (if not at least concerned) that this took place. Guaranteed, we will not be...

Decided to try this despite of some negative reviews and low expectations. We went there around 8pm and it did not look very busy. When you go to Chinese buffet and see place not very busy, it is definitely a good indicator of how the food will be. I thought it was going to be not so great experience but there were good number of food options there and most of the items I tried seemed cooked alright with the exception of couple items that appeared to be sitting for a while and not worth eating. We were party of 3 and waiter leading us to the seating did not speak good English but we were able to convey that two of us wanted buffet and one wanted to order out of the menu. Food out of the menu was hot but was not so great, although sushi was alright. They had Mongolian grille that was part of the buffet but no one bothered to explain this to us so we didn't try that. I say items with red meat were fine but I would question sea food and for sure items with chicken. It seemed like a really low quality of white meat with mostly ends and smaller pieces of meat but very few times you would see good piece of meat in the food. Veggies were good so you definitely can get your daily quota of fibers. Waiter was not so attententiv and was sitting in one of the booth with his cell phone so may be wasn't interested in serving any longer. We asked for chop sticks and he pointed the direction where I had to go get it. There is no 2.5 star so I have them 3 since food was cheap enough and expecting too much would not be a justice. Overall it wasn't the best food but also not the worst either. It will fill you up if that's your objective. Give them a try like I did, sounds like there are times when freshly cooked food makes it to the buffet. I went there in dinner time and I am willing to try...
