Short version: Yes, go here! Lol Full disclosure: This is a really great little coffee shop shopping really great things, from what I can tell. Ariana was an amazing host/barista with a great personality, and she was more than willing to answer any question I thought of and discuss their offerings whilst making my coffee. I did come in at the tail end of the day, so there were some things they had run out of, but not really an issue, as still plenty of options to choose from. I opted for an iced mocha , which is a typical staple drink for me at a coffee shop, and it was quite good, just not as bold as I usually prefer my drinks. Now, understanding the process, there are a couple primary reasons for this: first, the coffee is made via aeropress, which makes a fast, smooth, and great but light cup of coffee that would please any coffee lover that likes a less bold brew; and second, they use a natural chocolate/cocoa for flavoring their beverages, which is more subtle than a flavored syrup, but very delightful to the seasoned tastebuds and/or more health conscious. I did thoroughly enjoy the drink though, and I find it priced extremely fairly for the quality and quantity received. I also grabbed a couple of their house made 80% dark chocolate bars to sample on the way home. I will say that I sampled both the Colombian and the Mexican bars, and the flavor profile is great on both (Colombian a little more bold, Mexican a little more smooth, both creamy mouth feel with good melt) , but I did find myself desiring a little more substance to cost ratio. The melting chocolate bar bites did add that little bit of extra flavor I was looking for in my iced mocha and blended quite well in my mouth. I picked up quart size mason jar of cold press coffee to try later, so I can't say anything on that yet; however, I can hypothesize that it will be quite delectable, based on everything I've tried so far. Looking forward to the next time I'm in the area with more time to spare and in need of a coffee fix, so I can try some of their other offerings. In case you're wondering and have made it this far.... YES, I highly recommend Combs' Coffee to anyone who loves coffee or tea, as they have great smelling tea offerings...
Read moreTL;DR: Fantastic coffee, and they even made decaf good.
I have purchased drinks and beans here, as well as ordered beans shipped from the roastery. I recently had to go to decaf for medical reasons and that scared the heck out of me as I am a coffee addict/lover/home espresso brewer/etc.
The beans I'll talk about here are the Mexican Turquesa from the Chiapas region. They are Solar roasted Arabica. Tasting notes of Walnut and Milk Chocolate
I originally had the non decaf medium roast and I loved it for pour over. Drip (mocha master), and it turned out a pretty tasty espresso shot with very little difficulty in dialing in the grind.
Since I have switched to decaf, I have had both the medium and the dark roast. There is barely a hint of difference in pour over and drip on the medium roast.
It's fantastic that a decaf could date so could. I have been a death before decaf person, until It was a reality. I was very worried I would have to give up coffee as I've never heard a good word about decaf.
I then thought to myself, if there is anyone I can think of that could keep flavor and texture intact, it would be Combs. I went up to Corinth and had a pour over in the cafe and I was impressed. I bought a jar then and there.
I had since run out and ordered another 12oz of the medium, and decided to also give the dark roast a try, specifically for my Moka Pot. The Dark roast performed very well in the mokapot. All of the tasting notes were there.
Combs sent me fresh roasted beans. The moment I opened up the UPS envelope, the aroma engulfed me in a warm hug of happiness and comfort.
Again, I was not disappointed, and it has far exceeded expectations.
Comb's really does decaf justice with their Mountain Water...
Read moreI came in earlier today with my mom, we like to hang around coffee shops and were in the market for a new one, so we ended up at Comb’s after a brief google search. In trying any new coffee shop, I tend to be considerably anxious about it because I’m a little picky about how my coffee is made but oh. My. God. Upon first entering it was fragrant, and welcoming, and the atmosphere, despite being virtually windowless, was unique, cozy, and very friendly. As was the staff! Amongst being super knowledgeable and passionate about coffee, the man had a lot to say about it, and I thought it was really interesting learning about it! I’ve also never seen a coffee shop so passionate about what it’s selling. AS WELL AS SOLAR POWERED!!!! SOLAR!!!!!!! POWERED!!!!!!! That’s so sick!!! I appreciate that a lot! This also had to be some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. It had this like perfect balance of having that coffee flavor, without being too bitter, or overpowering the other notes in the drink. I ordered an iced mocha (I think? It’s been a long time since this morning), and it was smooth, nutty, and altogether just amazing. I’ve had nothing that compares to it. There are also tons. And tons. And tons of options in terms of drinks. Was it a little hard to find the shop? I mean, sure, but it only took us one lap around the row of buildings to notice the entrance sign and figure it out! The mural also helps give it away. And was it also a little pricey? Yeah, but to be fair, coffee is expensive these days, and it honestly probably isn’t the most I’ve ever spent on a coffee, and it’s great quality too anyways! Give it a shot if you ever have the chance, well for sure be back next we have...
