We made the classic mistake of attending their first day of serving brunch. We were the first customers of the day arriving 15 minutes after opening but they were clearly not well prepared for us which is surprising considering Vicari's reputation. We inquired about coffee and were told it was not available. Other customers who arrived later did get coffee.
My partner ordered a belgium waffle with fruit compote & warm maple syrup. The 2 waffles on her plate were not fully formed as expected but had holes in the grid along one side. The "compote" turned out to be a couple of sliced fresh strawberries.
I ordered the steak benedict and was told they did not have ingredients to prepare the hollandaise sauce so I ordered another menu item. The owner/chef arrived shortly afterward and said he could make the sauce so my order was changed back to original. The steak & eggs were well cooked but the sauce tasted like a traditional brown gravy. I checked the menu and mushroom sauce was listed instead of hollandaise so that was my bad but I question the waiter's knowledge for not pointing it out to me that it was not hollandaise, particularly after our previous discussion. I had the distinct impression that I was eating an open faced roast beef sandwich with eggs on top.
We ordered mimosas which were not on the menu but were surprised that they were $15 each when the bill arrived. My brunch partner drank two of them (groan).
Bottom line for brunch was $95.48 (20% suggested tip included). The rooftop view is nice but its too bad that this time the food didn't match up with the view.
I do hope that this venture succeeds but they still have some work to do before they meet my expectations.
By the way, I have eaten at the parent Vicari restaurant a number of times and have always been happy with the food, drink, and...
Read moreI really liked this place. I've only been once. My kids and I were coming back from Nashville and looking for a place to eat late evening in Corinth. (The pickings are slim.) We were trying to avoid fast food. So the internet said that the conservatory was open till 10:30. When we got there we found the kitchen closed at 9:30 but it was only about 8:45 at the time. The outdoor seating was already "folded up" and there was a storm forecast to move in. But I pushed a bit, much to my children's chagrin (they are adults by the way) and they put us at a table outside. We were the only people in the place. The very young and personable, and by the way, cute, young woman who waited on us was awesome. The food was really good. We had a wing appetizer that everyone loved. I think my kids had salads because they didn't want a inconvenience the cook too much at the end of the night. Whatever! Anyway, my son said it may have been the best salad he'd ever had in his life. My flatbread was great too. My daughter raved about her meal, but I don't remember what she got. There's an indoor seating area and an outdoor seating area. Personally I'd go for the outdoor seating. There are not a lot of places in Corinth Mississippi that I would call trendy, but this is one of them. I recall the menu was not real extensive, but there's some good stuff on it. It may have been a week night menu. And they don't have the beer selection. I'd like. I tend to judge places by their beer selection. But I didn't grade them down because of that. I highly recommend you go to the...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for a good date night spot. I remembered some friends recommended the Conservatory, so we gave it a try. It did not disappoint. DISCLAIMER: Because we were celebrating something, and because we wanted to try several dishes, we did spend more money than was necessary to have a good meal.
Since last evening was very mild, we decided to sit outside so we could experience the full ambiance. The decor was nice, but not too gaudy. Music was played at a comfortable level in the background. After the sun went down, we had just enough light to see our food comfortably. The fountain provided an additional white noise that helped to block out any street noise and create a pleasant atmosphere.
The food was great! No complaints. Everything seemed to be cooked to perfection. If we wanted to get real picky, there are only two very minor recommendations we would make. My wife thought the beef tenderloin Cobb salad needed some spinach to break up the Romaine. I thought the steak entree was just slightly overpriced, considering the portion sizes. However, the food was so good that these minor things were not worth taking off a star on the rating.
The server was great, and the two cocktails we tried we prepared perfectly with...
