Tokai Sushi — Restaurant in Corona

I like the food and I would definitely go more often. BUT, they don't close at consistent times, they close whenever they want. The sign in their window says they close at 9:30pm but my husband and I have experienced several times where that wasn't true. One time, we walked in to eat at about 8:30pm, but they said sorry, they were closed. Another time we were going next door to Subway, around the same time, 8:30-8:45pm. We saw a server look through their window then quickly lock the door and turn off the open sign. We just looked at each other and shook our heads. We weren't even going there but we knew they wouldn't have wanted us to anyway. Now tonight, I had my daughter hurry up and send in a mobile order at 8:40pm to see if it would go through, which it did. But immediately afterwards, I got a call from them. They told me that they had already closed for the day. I asked them if they close at 9:30pm and they said yes, but that "tonight" it was slow so they closed early. Other times I've put in mobile orders that just got denied. I just know that if they've turned my husband and I away that many times, I'm sure there are others in the same situation. I just think it's very bad business practices. I would change your hours if you have to close early all the time. It's not reliable. Not sure if I want to ever go back and deal with that. It takes enough effort to get the family to decide on where to eat, but then to get turned away because the business closed earlier than the posted sign, is very...

The sushi was disgusting, no flavor whatsoever. Bad quality of seafood ! If I can give this place no stars I would. When we walked in and got seated you can tell the employees were acting weird and suspicious. My husband kept asking them questions about the menu and the young guy there kept going back to ask the other employees and they were whispering to him. The vibe was just off almost like they are desperate for customers to walk in the door. The garden salad is not even a garden salad no tomatoes cucumbers just lettuce. They are afraid to use decent produce, seafood, and ingredients. Very disappointed and mad honestly we paid too much for this disgusting sushi ! I can’t believe places like this exist and people still walk in the door to eat. I highly recommended to go elsewhere like Orange County for sushi ! My friends, family, and I have been going to Tokai for at least a year now (both dine in and take out). Every time they deliver tasty and fresh food. My go-to's are the Chicken Katsu Bento Box and ANY of the handrolls (Salmon Skin is my current fav, with Scallops as a close second). Other past orders we've had are the Beef Yakisoba (which comes out on a hot plate if you're dining in), the Gyoza, and various sushi rolls. All this to say this is a really great and consistent Sushi/Japanese restaurant and I do recommend this restaurant to others. :) The staff are all very kind and attentive to you when you order. Now there's all you can eat sushi available! Whether lunch or dinner, it is always a great time...
