Hu-Dat Noodle House — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

The place was quite clean, and the staff are nice. However, the food was an astonishing flop.

The crab rangoons tasted a bit off with the filling. I had gotten the cơm tấm thịt nướng, and my wife had gotten the phở tái bò viên. The meat on mine was surprisingly beef instead of pork which I found odd, but I was even more diasappointed when the beef was so dry and overdone that all I was tasting was charcoal as it turned to dust in my mouth with the rice. The bắp cải làm dưa did not seem to actually be pickled or at least not for long enough as it barely had any flavor whatsoever. The chả giò I got extra on the cơm was completely soggy on the bottom, and the filling was bland. I tried saving it the chili oil, but even that was bland tasting with barely any heat somehow.

My wife's bowl of phở tasted very bland as well as a whole. No ginger, no MSG, the beansprouts tasted old, no rock sugar. The worse offence on that was that the thịt bò tái wasn't actually rare and allowed to cook in the broth. It was pre-cooked and dry when her bowl came out.

At the end of it all, my stomach alongside my wife's is turning as well by the time we got back to the hotel room.

If you want real Vietnamese food then take the advice of this Vietnamese person and go somewhere...

I've tried the other hu dat on staples and id definitely give them 5 stars.

UPDATE: I thought I was leaving this review for the hudat on airline and SPID im not even sure if they have the same owners?

But the hudat on staples is AWESOME i get the same dish every time. And they're the only people who make tofu taste AMAZING. They have a great friendly crew.

In response to the owner: of course. I totally get that! Im just thankful you guys exist. Only place I go to now when I'm craving Chinese. (Just ordered some last night actually)

The only reason I'm giving the one on airline if they're related 4 stars is because I walked in.. ordered to go and when my food was done no one called me, I eventually walked up to ask to be told they dont know if this was my order (it had been sitting on the counter for 5 minutes) .. and then another girl came running up out of breath and you can tell shes working hard.. she apologized and got me situated. She saved this from being a bad review of 2 stars.

We got there right before lunch cut off. 2:30 is when they stop lunch. We got there at 1:45. We both had Com dishes , I had char grilled beef, and he had short ribs. It comes with rice and Kim chee , I got extra , no need for that. The Kim Chee was not up to the flavor I remembered, in fact , there was NO FLAVOR , it was cabbage and carrot pieces not peeled enough or cut up enough , which was a big disappointment , I always loved it here. Having said that , the char grilled beef did not disappoint , it was delicious. Not too thick and not too thin, just the right amount of char . My husband really liked the short ribs. Some places have a lot of fat on short ribs. It was not crowded, and the chairs were super comfortable. The staff was very nice , not necessarily helpful, but this place is a get your own drink , get your own to go box , so if you ask for anything ( we had no salt at table, so had to track down our own) server looked surprised I asked for anything. It's still a good place...
