I posted the review below 3 years ago. True to my word, we went back. Ol' Steakhouse had become one of our favorite places to eat when I visit Corpus. Last weekend, we were visiting Corpus and took a Corpus resident who'd never been as well as a friend we brought with us that had never been. Had this been our 1st visit, my rating would be a 1 Star. But, because I am hoping this was a 1-off weekend, I didn't go that far. I want to say that I tried reaching out to the restaurant, and have yet to receive a response.
The drink special was Daquiris. They couldn't do any. So, we ordered Piña Coladas. What came out was a Pineapple Slush. It was awful. I let the waitress know, and she said she'd tell the manager. She came back and said she took it off the bill. We weren't offered anything else to drink, weren't asked if she could get us something different. I asked if they didn't know how to make it, could we get them remade right, or were there other options. We still wanted them, and were happy to pay for them, just didn't want what came out. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, I feel that this is a basic part of training - to ask if they want something else to drink (even if it's just a soda?)!
For a table of 5, they brought out 4 rolls. We ordered the Country Fried Steak, which he said was a little bland. The Supreme Chopped Steak, Medium - it came out Medium Well, almost Well, but edible. The sirloin steak- Medium Rare, she said it was perfect. And the Cowboy Steak - Medium Well, it came out rare. We sent it back, and where we cut it open was cooked, so I cut it in another spot, and it was still now closer to medium. The manager on duty was clearly put out with us and said it was "impossible" to cook a bone in steak medium well all the way through... I've never, in over 40 years, heard of this. Nobody at my table had. He said "So, what, do you just want it Well Done?" I assumed since Med Well got it Medium, at best, this would be the best way to go. It came out burnt, dried up and shrivled. Completely inedible. Jerky was more edible than this steak. The pictures of the steak were taken on the 3rd attempt, showing that while some pieces were charred, others still weren't. Even steak sauce couldn't salvage this. I told them it was not edible, at all, and they just took the steak away. I paid $30 for a baked potato, 1/2 roll (because I shared a roll with another person at the table), and salad.
Because we were enjoying each others company, we wanted to order dessert. There was no Key Lime Pie. There was no Key Lime Pie. The server said "Yeah, they refuse to update the menus." We ordered 2 Creme Brulees and a Cheesecake. Cheesecake came out, it was plain. The strawberries were frozen, and I guess whip cream is only if you get strawberries. We paid $8 for a dessert that wasn't as described... This wasn't lunch, and wasn't an early dinner. Strawberries don't take long to thaw. That's poor planning, especially for Labor Day weekend.
We still tipped, and tipped well. We aren't those type of people. But, we have tried to reach out to the restaurant regarding this and nothing. I don't think it should have been too much to ask to remake the steak, and make it right. Or make a different Ribeye that they are able to cook if they are incapable of cooking the bone in ribeye. Or, at minimum, Apologize?
So, I suggest, if you go, avoid the Cowboy Ribeye. Find out before you sit down what they're out of. I may go back the next time I'm there and see if this was a 1 off, or if things are just changing.
3 years ago... The steaks were superb; it's rare for me to eat a steak without sauce. The service was Excellent. For lack of a better way to explain it, it reminded us of good old fashioned service. Fine dining at a reasonable price. We will...
Read moreOn Saturday, September 13, 2025, at approximately 11:25 a.m., I visited your establishment with my parents, my husband, and my toddler. While we were seated, I was unexpectedly approached by six employees along with a red-haired supervisor. The supervisor informed me that I could not have a closed Yeti cup at the table due to Texas Alcohol Control Board regulations.
For context, my Yeti contained nothing more than filtered water. I politely requested a clear cup so I could pour my water into it, but my request was denied. Rather than resolving the situation discreetly, the supervisor chose to make an example of me in front of staff and guests, unnecessarily drawing an audience to my table.
My husband ultimately removed the Yeti from the restaurant and brought me hot bottled water from the car. When I asked for the corporate office phone number, the supervisor told me that any complaint would be routed back to her, effectively discouraging me from pursuing the matter further.
If your establishment prohibits closed containers, the professional solution would be to offer bottled water for purchase. Instead, the supervisor handled the situation in a manner that was unprofessional, humiliating, and entirely avoidable. In my 25 years of restaurant management—including experience with casino resorts, hospitals, cruise ships, private resorts, and service for high-profile clientele—I would never have treated a guest in such a manner. My approach would have been to respond respectfully, provide bottled water, and resolve the matter discreetly, without spectacle.
This supervisor, described as a red-haired woman wearing a green shirt, heavyset in build, demonstrated poor discernment, pride, and rudeness. She does not represent the professionalism or hospitality a company of your reputation should stand for. If she were part of my team, her behavior would warrant immediate reprimand and likely dismissal.
Your restaurant was once a family favorite of ours, but after this experience, I will no longer be returning or recommending it to others. As a veteran of the restaurant industry and former instructor at Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles, I can confidently say this incident reflects a serious failure of leadership and guest relations. Read moreToday (05/04/2025) was the first time we received such horrible service from the hostesses. There was two ladies an older lady and the second was tall red head with glasses. When it came to getting our table they wanted to sit us at the table next the restroom. We respectfully declined and asked if we could be seated at another table. After huffing and puffing and discussing it amongst each other, they told us rudely we would have to wait. We were fine with waiting and understood declining a table we would have to wait as a result. Over 20 minutes later we asked where were we as far as on the list to be seated? The redhead told us we would’ve been seated but we declined the table that was for us. We told her we understood but we wondering since people who showed up in the last few minutes got seated before us. Instead of being respectful she was being snotty and bobbing her head. The older lady was making remarks and basically telling us we were the problem since we didn’t want to sit next to the restroom. We asked for a manager and they told us they were gone and we asked who is currently running the place? They brought out a gentleman who was outstanding and tried fixing the problem. Normally we would’ve stayed but those hostesses continued to be rude. Out of all the times we’ve been here we’ve never been treated so poorly. I’ve worked in the service industry for about 13 years combined and I understand people can be difficult. We were by far trying to be “those people”. But if people are being respectful and are willing to wait, they shouldn’t be treated badly for asking a simple and innocent question. Others were waiting next to us and even stated the front of the house needing adjusting since they didn’t receive great service either walking in. The gentleman stated it was like a bother to the hostess that him and his family chose to eat here. Front of the house service is what sets the tone for the customer. If they’re greeted and treated with respectful usually they’re happy when they see their server. And the server takes it from there. I know no matter what people sometimes do there is always that one unhappy person. But I hope those ladies understand being rude and bumping us to the bottom of the list out of...
