Went to Sandi's because it kept catching my eye in searches for Corpus Christi restaurants, and it did for GOOD reason! YUM! We were staying on North Beach, so that's revealing as many restaurants are located in between! Please keep reading- it takes a lot for me to be detailed in my reviews - but I do so when I wish I knew more before I decided... What a GREAT place! Chelsea -our server- was sweet, cheerful, and attentive. The decor is awesome, well-thought out, timely for a classic diner with appropriate classic rock music in the background (and it was at the "right" volume). Our meal was a very late lunch, so only a few others were there. Entree delivery was kinda long for so few, but for good reason: All so fresh, hot, and delicious; I love and appreciate the printed card that informs customers that yes, good food can take a little longer to prepare the right way (Actually, it states that at this time, only Sandi and -forget his name- are the cooks! In other words, their names are "stamped for approval" for every entree!) LOVE the names for the burgers/entrees/etc. Wish I took a pic of the menu because what I found online (minus FB, as I don't do Facebook) was out-of-date. The food was fantastic! You NEED to know: Sandi makes the bread herself, and it is freaking awesome! We're always in search of good bread/hamburger buns: there is no search in Corpus Christi because it's at Sandi's! I'm somewhat sad I didn't order something with bread (thank goodness my family let me sample theirs!). Pictured, I got the "Red, White, and Blue" Salad: fun, healthy choice that was hearty with FRESH spinach in an edible bowl that was also made (not a pre-made shell). The poblano pepper soup is awesome ("medium" spice level, FYI). Family got & loved: the John Wayne burger, the Angelo burger with bacon, and the "Fill er up Philly." French fries are freshly made. Everything was fantastic! Highly recommend...
Read moreWe walked in and there was only one table occupied...that should have been our first clue to leave. But we wanted to give a small diner a chance because they usually have the best home cooked food! We ordered with no issue, the waiter was very pleasant. However, when the food came it was nothing like what we asked for. I ordered biscuits and gravy but I received what looked like a toasted bun or roll with a sausage patty on the side. I ordered hash browns but received home fries, and my pancakes were literally paper thin. Check out the photos I posted with this review. I asked for our check and the waiter asked if something was wrong because we didn't eat anything. So I told him my concerns and then asked him again for our check. He brought out a woman who had me explain the issues again, and I specifically told her it's not his fault, he didn't cook the food, I just want to pay and leave. Then, here comes Sandi. She comes over to the table and very loudly said "I'm sandi what's wrong here how can I help?" Now, the only other people in the diner, as well as all of the employees are staring at us. I tell sandi I'd rather not say it all again and we would just like to pay and go. She doesn't accept that. She insists on hearing it, so I explain to her as well. She has an argument for everything! She tells me those are "homemade biscuits" and she made everything from scratch and it's all very good. The issue was not the taste, because I didn't eat a bite of it. The issue was that I ordered specific things and did not get what most people would expect. I will NEVER eat here again simply due to Sandi's demeanor towards me as a customer. I never once said I wasn't paying, and I did in fact pay for everything although I...
Read moreWe stopped in for lunch today. It’s been a long time since we have been there but we thought we would try it again. My wife got a blueberry shake and the cinnamon roll and I got the pig knuckle club sandwich. The cinnamon roll was fantastic. The milkshake was pretty good but could’ve used some more fruit or flavoring as the blueberry flavor was just barely noticeable. The bread on the sandwich is made in house and was good, but just barely held up to the sandwich. My main complaint would be the service. There was a young man waiting on us, and the first thing he brought out was the cinnamon roll, about 10 minutes later my sandwich came out, and then five minutes after that my wife finally got her milkshake. We almost didn’t even get to eat at the same time because he brought everything at different times. After all the food had been served we ask about the milkshake and his comment was, “We have to make them ourselves.” So what? I understand that all the food may not be able to come out at the same time, but it should certainly come out within a couple of minutes of each other. My wife almost finished her cinnamon roll, and I had almost finished my sandwich by the time the milkshake came out. I was also curious about the size of the hamburger patties on the burger so I can keep track of what I’m eating. This young man only had to say that it was a good size burger. I had to tell him to go speak to the cook and find out. It turns out they are 5 ounce. I am sure we will come back and try Sandy’s diner again, but if this young man ends up on our table, we will move or definitely be asking for someone else. Perhaps this is not the job he...
