My son and I go to Village Pizza now and then. It had been awhile. Apparently, changes have been made to the service structure. You used to order at the register just inside the front door. Now we were asked if we were getting food for the restaurant or to go, inside seating, or out. When we answered the questions, we were instructed to take a particular table.
One of the youthful wait staff approached with menus and took our drink orders. Two lemonades. Although the cups, ice, and drinks are still located where we used to easily access them ourselves, now the drinks were brought to us, and our orders taken. The server was clear and easy to understand, which is not always the case. He was also a bit loud. There were no smiles and he exuded stress. I have the sense that he is young and new and focused on keeping everything moving, but it felt rushed and almost like we were being yelled at though I don't think he intended it that way. I could imagine him working in surgery in an overwhelmed ER trauna center.
He came by our table what seems like 10 times over maybe 40 minutes total. I'm guessing it probably wasn't actually that frequently but that's how it seemed. He kept asking if we wanted refills on our drinks, and when the food arrived, rightly asked if we wanted anything else. I requested hot pepper, which he produced. During one of his numerous, rushed appearances, he asked if we wanted "anything else at all" from him. I kind of wish I requested only that he relax a bit.
Our order of 6 hot wings with a side of ranch and a small pineapple and ham pizza were delicious.
The wings arrived first and the waiter appeared to ask if he could take the empty plate. My son acquiesced, immediately after which I realized that he had taken the ranch dressing on the plate, and I like to dip my puzza crust in the dressing, but off it went. I wasn't about to ask for more from the young drill sergeant. Similarly, he whisked away the pizza platter just as I was about to pick at a few stray bits of pineapple.
I assume they are adapting to the new service format and are young and inexperienced, though some servers seemed not as high velocity and forceful. It's possible that they are untrusting of outsiders to the tight-knit village of Corrales. Truth be told, though, I lived there for a time, probably before any of the staff at Village Pizza were born. As we left, they did at least warn us to stay on the path and away from The Moors after dark.
Staying on top of things is legitimate, but keep in mind that it's not a war zone. People are there to enjoy some good food, which they definitely have, and to relax, which seems not to be their strong suit. I say all this not to complain. Only in the hopes that any servers approaching the job with that degree of stress might realize that lives are not in...
Read moreDisappointing exchange with Village Pizza owner Kit today. We paid for a pizza last week by giving our card info over the phone to whoever it was who took our order. Shortly after that, we experienced multiple fraudulent charges and attempts, with the majority of them coming from Albuquerque area locations. Denny’s, Target, etc. Two from Trip.com, and Visa said that they blocked several tries from other vendors. I called Village Pizza to let them know that my card had been compromised, and that they were one of the likely spots for my card info getting out into the wild. I had made another charge earlier at Lowe’s, so a card skimmer from another vendor was a possibility. My intent was to ask the management at Village Pizza how they handle credit card numbers when called in : are they written down on scrap paper? Entered directly into a point of sale terminal? And to request that they do a training with their people to help ensure that numbers jotted down on paper resulting in the breach of sensitive info and resulting theft did not happen. I didn’t make an accusation, but I didn’t rule out the possibility that the theft could have happened there as well. I simply tried to state what happened, and ask about process.
As a side note, my daughter previously worked there. During one shift, she went to her locker and found that her bank cards had been pulled from her phone case and left scattered in the locker. I’m not ruling out that this previous experience isn’t having some input on my concerns. It simply is what it is.
My disappointment was that I didn’t call Village Pizza in order to make demands or accusations. I wanted to understand their procedure and see if management would make the employees aware that there was the possibility of a theft of a customer’s info. However, Kit appeared to not want to hear any of it. She immediately became defensive, spoke over the top of me, insisting that nobody could have used the information I provided to them to make a fraudulent purchase against my card (in spite of the fact that her business was able to charge my card with that exact info). Or... even if they could, she said that all of their employees are "good high school kids".
I don’t understand how someone with a sliver of customer service aptitude would treat a customer this way. I am much more disappointed than angry. We have been customers of VP for well over 20 years. Likely taking a break for awhile. I’ll find other local businesses to patronize. If we go back, it will...
Read moreWas super disappointed when I took my Pre-K class for a field trip. It all started about 2 weeks after I booked the trip, I called about a week before to confirm the number of people attending and the girl working was extremely rude on the phone, she didn’t know the school or my name after I gave it to her to verify, she then proceeded to put me on “hold” where she put the phone down and I could hear her in the back with a bad attitude stating how “some lady with some school wants to know about a field trip? I don’t know what she wants”. She then returned to the phone and I advised her that it was on a Friday and gave her the date and she still couldn’t comprehend what I was saying. Also, upon booking the field trip the staff advised me that the entire trip takes about 2 hours and that if we got there at their recommended time at 9:30 in the morning that we would eat near 11:30 and be out. They told me that they only did field trips at 9:30 and 2:00. Fast forward to the day of the trip, and we arrive all 15 of us, including chaperones and children and $76 later...they rush us in to our pizza making station and tell us that we all have to squish together because the other tables are reserved for Corrales Elementary. We make our SLICE of pizza and give it to them. They have us sit at the table and color while we just wait. Our pizza slices are cooked and served by 9:45 IN THE MORNING!!!!! We eat and are finished by 10:04 and we sit there. At this time Corrales Elementary is making their pizza in the room. All the employees are focused on them and we’re left in the small corner of the restaurant. After sitting there for more than 10 minutes without any acknowledgement from staff, we proceed to improvise and walk across the street to the park for the remainder of our field trip time. I go up to the staff member and tell them we’re leaving and they just smirk. A parent then arrives after we have left looking for our group and the staff tells her that we “rushed out in a hurry and had to leave” which is entirely untrue. I was EXTREMELY disappointed, not for me but for my kids! This was their end of the year celebration and gift for graduating pre-k and it was HORRIBLE. We returned to school and everybody was starving but parents didn’t pack lunches because the field trip was supposed to be our lunch, but instead it was...
