The first time I came here, the experience was great. Unfortunately, the second visit was a completely different story. While the food was good, the overall experience was disappointing. Their menu is incredibly confusing when it comes to gluten-free (GF) options. Many items are labeled “GF,” but what they actually mean is “GFO” (gluten-free option). Typically, when a menu item is marked “GF,” it indicates that it’s already gluten-free. However, there’s a legend at the bottom of the menu explaining that you need to request the item to be made gluten-free. To make matters worse, some items that are gluten-free are also labeled “GF,” making it even more unclear.
I had to ask for all my food to be remade, which I felt bad about, but the server didn’t warn me that everything would be upcharged to make it gluten-free. In the end, I spent nearly $40 for two California rolls—the most I’ve ever paid for basic rolls.
If you have dietary restrictions, be warned: the menu is poorly designed and doesn’t align with standard labeling practices for GF items. A note to the owner: items that can be made gluten-free should be marked “GFO.” Otherwise, you’re likely causing confusion and, worse, health issues for your customers. To top it all off, the server was incredibly unkind about the entire situation. :/ sending food back makes me feel like the worst person on the planet. I am usually really careful to order things correctly with my sensitivity to not cause issues. This menu makes...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this place. I liked the decor, the service was great, but ultimately the sushi just wasn't that appetizing. Their unagi sauce, which is supposed to be somewhat salty, but also tangy and sweet, was just pure salt. They cover most of their basic roles in this stuff and for the first three roles I couldn't figure out what was so salty until I finally asked the waitress about it and she said it was the unagi sauce. I just don't understand why you would make that sauce so salty, then cover most of your rolls in it. If I want my roll super salty I have soy sauce in front of me specifically for that purpose. The prices weren't spectacular either. I understand that it's the only sushi place in Cortez, but still. Also, while I didn't take any stars off for this, I did notice that their sushi chef did not look even remotely professional. Not trying to be a jerk here, but the guy looked more like he just got off a double at a dive bar than he looked like a sushi chef. Overall the sushi was okay, but as for my opinion, I think it's fine for people who haven't tried much sushi, but as for people that have tried lots of sushi and are somewhat picky about their sushi palate, and you know exactly what you like, Stonefish isn't going to cut it. Once again, service was great, liked the way the restaurant looked as well, but it just doesn't even come close to making sushi...
Read moreRecently moved back to Cortez. This is my 3rd time ordering lunch for pick up. I had the Salmon Protein Bowl. It was delicious. Generous serving and they do not skip out on the sauce.
Today Luis assisted me and considering I have ordered lunch from here more than once—He was the first server to share the STONEFISH SUSHI LOYALTY LUNCH CARD with me. He also educated me on how and when to use it. “Buy 6 lunch entrees from the lunch menu and the 7th is Free.” Luis also packed chop sticks and soy sauce for me. This also had not been done in the past. Definitely noticed his attention to detail. It was disheartening it took three trips to learn about the Loyalty Card. However, the food was delicious all of those previous times. I would be 1/2 to my loyalty reward. 😂 This is more of a front end training opportunity rather than food quality/service.
I highly recommend and looking forward to...
