Great Mex — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

This is some of the most mediocre Mexican food that I've had in the area. It's been several years since the last time I visited, at which point I thought it was pretty good. So I brought someone about 45 minutes before they close so that we could both eat dinner. Here. The food was pretty gross and I can't see a reason why I would return. I had the California burrito. Not sure how that goes so poorly and a flautas. The flautas were poor quality and extremely dry and flavorless. I couldn't finish it it was so bad and it wasn't that cheap. My friend also had a dish they weren't impressed with and we left there feeling disappointed. We got the sense. They weren't pleased that we were there so close to their closing. Although we left after only about 20 minutes so there was still roughly a half hour before they were even supposed to close. So maybe that was the reason for the poor food. DONT EAT OUT HERE! I’ve came to GreatMex grill multiple times I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and I have came to a conclusion that I honestly do not like or recommend this place AT ALL. The meat is all flavorless, Tamales were flavorless with too much bread, the enchiladas tasted bland like everything else. I got food poisoning from the fajitas. Every time I have gotten their GM slam the bacon is burnt. Even when I asked them to re make it, they still burnt it to a crisp. I really don’t recommend GreatMex. Well i meant to take picture of the food but I ate it fast because I was hungry. I haven’t been to Great Mex since I was a kid when they had one location at the beach. Back then my friends and I would get hammered and have a night cap at Great Mex with some tacos. It was THE place if you were a local. It’s been years since I’ve been back in town. I forgot about this place but thankfully was reminded of it as a great staple for mexican food. I ordered a carne asada burrito. The staff was great and patient with me while I was trying to order.
