Hacienda Vieja Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Cottage Grove

We had our first hot meal here after the HUGE ice storm that hit lane county. They were ready to greet us at the door and were very kind. I believe we may have even been waited on by the manager/owner! They made a fresh pot of coffee just for me, which was dark and strong, and the chips were tasty but the salsa could have been better. My husband ordered a carnitas con chili verde burrito that was huge and came with an equally big scoop of sour cream! I ordered Chilaquiles rojos con carne asada and a egg, and while the carne asada and salsa roja was the real deal, I never in my life have ever seen raw onion and oregano used a a topping/garnish on chilaquiles? It should be sour cream and queso fresco. I asked my mom if this was maybe typical in other states as my family is from Jalisco, and she had said she had never seen that either. They got my order wrong and didn't check back with us about the meal to fix the order. We were one of only 2 parties in the restaurant so it's not like they were too busy for us. I ordered a chile relleno burrito and the rice and beans on the side were in the burrito. It had parmesan cheese on top! Who puts parmesan on Mexican food? The sauce was like marinara sauce. They don't have any non-alcoholic beer so that's one strike against them but I can drink water and save my money. It just wasn't really a great experience. Next time we will just go to Torrero's like we usually do. When you get to a restaurant and there's no one there, it's a sign! Oh and the guacamole was flavorless. The service at this restaurant was impeccable. As soon as we arrived, the server told us he had been cooking lamb for hours and asked if we wanted to try it. We aren't really lamb people, but it is a great option for people who like it. The portion sizes were huge and the food was really good. The only downside is it was kind of warm in the restaurant. That could of just been on that particular day. The bathroom was extremely clean. The service was very good. The staff was friendly and very attentive to things such as refilling our drinks and treating us like welcomed guests.
