A Hidden Gem with Breathtaking Views — But the Food Needs Work We recently visited the Redwoods and were hoping to cap off our day with dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset. Being from the East Coast, this was a special treat for us. Unfortunately, since it was a Sunday, many restaurants in Crescent City were either closed or closing early. After checking multiple spots and facing long wait times, we reluctantly stopped at Seaside Restaurant and Bar, despite some of the reviews we had read. Let’s start with the good: the view is absolutely stunning — 5/5 without question. We sat inside by large windows that offered uninterrupted views of the ocean, and after dinner, we walked just a few steps outside to capture photos of the gorgeous sunset. The location is unbeatable for a romantic or scenic dining experience. Now for the not-so-great: the restaurant itself needs some work. Yes, the tables are sticky — but to be fair, it’s the coating meant to keep tablecloths from slipping, not a cleanliness issue. Still, it doesn’t make for the best first impression. The real letdown was the menu and food quality. The restaurant seems to be trying to offer too many types of cuisine — Mexican, Mongolian, and more — and unfortunately, none of it feels authentic or particularly well-made. We'd love to see them simplify the menu and lean into what makes sense for the area: fresh, local coastal dishes. A skilled chef with a focus on quality ingredients could truly transform this place. In short, the setting is incredible, but the food doesn’t live up to it — at least not yet. We truly hope someone sees the potential and gives this little seaside spot the attention it deserves.

Do not go here. They were not busy, but the wait was over 45 minutes (seated) just to have someone acknowledge us. Then we ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. The server was nice and apologetic, but it was still bad. At least 3 groups of people left while we waited. I ordered a specific brand of wine, but later discovered they only had house wine, but were charging 2 different prices depending on the brand you chose. There was only one gluten-free option and it was a $32 steak. We both ordered steaks and the stuffed steak was very undercooked and inedible. We didn't want to wait for it to be re-cooked so I found boxes for ourselves and took our meals to go. Everyone was also having a hard time getting their ticket so that they could pay. Only giving this 2 stars because the waiter was incredibly nice.

Overpriced, but you’re paying for the view, not the food. Formerly a Hilton franchise, the hotel encompassing the restaurant has since gone independent. Customer service has improved since the owner’s son has apparently taken over day-to-day management. I ordered the Captain’s platter, which at $38 was very good but not worth the money. The Happy Hour specials took $1 off of specific mixed drinks which ranged from $7 to $10 each. My wife ordered the bread bowl clam chowder, which was serviceable but inferior to places in the Bay Area or Monterey. The view was spoiled by weather but still a great place to have anniversary dinner.

If I could give ZERO I would. I WILL RECORD IF I EVER GO AGAIN FOR LEGAL PURPOSES. I WAS TREATED WITH AGE DISCRIMINATION. AND ON DISCRIPTION THEY STATE...DOGS OUTSIDE... UNDER RESTAURANT SECTION... NOPE WRONG!!!! So I walked in asked nightly price. I was on booking . com web site almost ready to hit book. They had just quoted me twice the cost of what I was about to book. So I hit ok. Cause they had rooms available.... but wait not for me.... I did not have a dog but it seems EVERYONE else did. I said ok I just booked a room here is my email and name for confirmation. They looked at me like they didn't understand.. told me nothing went through. My friend said let's eat we are hungry so I told them to let me know when they see it. We went to restaurant inside hotel about 100 feet from desk. I watched a people came in. The restaurant had 2 customers the staff was in the bar. Had to ask for help other customers came in they brought them menus and water still nothing for us I said something to young man as he came by then a young girl came up took our order and drink order. More everyone in there was under 30yr old customers and staff. We are 60. A couple came and sat next to us like his chair was touching mine they had a dog nobody was at the table on the other side of them but they choose to keep the dog on my side and it nipped at my feet i had sandals on and said something to him twice as a tried to shoo the dog away and my friend said let's just change seats since they don't care they let dog into the eating area. I have ptsd was attacked by little dog. And just a second before these dog people sat down this happened..... When 30 minutes went by the young girl came up and said the cook did not see our order and was just starting it. We ordered bowl of soup and nachos that's it. I shook my head said ok. I was calm and polite the whole time. So after all that... I went to desk then. The man was telling a couple he was upgrading them because of the problem. I stepped up with my confirmation email open did not say a word yet. Just stood there at the desk waiting. He said just wait a minute like I said something so I just looked at him like I'm not in a rush. He then told me that they are sold out of that room and my reservation never came in. I asked if I could verify the wifi on my phone maybe I didn't have service I said if you're not seeing this ....handed him my phone. He looked dumbfounded but I got it connected to wifi. I asked if they saw my reservation now. He said it doesn't matter we are over booked through that website but we have a similar room. (I've workd in the industry before) It's the same room just not through the discounted travel web site. So I asked nicely that since we've been here almost 2 hours the restaurant did not even place our order when we put it in and now this would you please comp the room to the price I have online. Your restaurant ignored us and you could have suggested I turn on wifi since you're in a dead cell service area. He refused and then told me he didn't have any rooms. I go back to table and the restaurant manager is yelling at my friend ...."people your age are just so sensitive and are always causing problems" I think she was telling them the issues we had and they just turned around and gaslighted her and blamed her age. She got mad loud and told them she just got through cancer left her service dog at home is having staff yell at HER! She said let's go I'm not paying for anything. I told the young man waiter as I got my card out I'll pay for the drinks but you never brought our food as calmly as I had been the whole time. My friend was walking out and I started to cry it was a long drive no room no food my ptsd was getting me quieter and the RESTAURANT MANAGER SAID YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS TO GET OUT AS I AM TRYING TO PUT IN MY CARD NUMBER BY HAND CAUSE YOU CAN'T SWIPE I'M CRYING SHE'S YELLING AT ME SAYING EVERYONE IS LOOKING. I calmly and quietly said I haven't raised my voice I'm paying what more do you want from me I'm sorry my...

Before even walking into the restaurant it was confusing if I was even in the right place, there was no clear signage. I asked the hotel front desk and they affirmed that there was a restaurant inside and that they did serve non-guests. Great. The depiction online looked elegant. Fancy even, so I had high hopes. Too high, sadly. At the entrance to the restaurant, past the hotel front desk, a dry erase board listed the specials and instructed us to seat ourselves. My friend and I came an hour before closing and it seemed busy although, about less than half the dining room was full. I counted three servers rushing around as we sat for 15 minutes without menus or anything else at a dirty table, which was the only one left near the bay windows offering amazing sweeping views of battery point and the surrounding area. As a waitress zoomed by, she stopped to hurriedly wipe the table and took our orders for coffee. Unfortunately, I had to ask two or three times for cream and a spoon. After sitting for awhile longer, I realized she wasn’t going to stop at our table again to take our orders. Being Sunday evening, I wasn’t feeling too picky, just glad a place was open because I had skipped lunch. After I approached the bar and asked for menus, I ordered the special, fish and chips. My friend ordered some kind of sad looking grilled chicken sandwich thing on a squashed bun. I was served three pieces of fried breaded mush that appeared just slightly larger than an average fish stick sitting on top of something akin to and tasting much on the same level as McDonald’s French fries, but not as good. The tartar sauce was pretty good though, as well as the coleslaw. Sadly, I did not take a photo. I was tired from driving most of the day and only thought of it afterwards, as I was more focused on my friend who I hadn’t seen...

(Please note that the following review is from December of 2022. I went back in to edit it, then realized that it might be updated to now, 10 months later.)

I gave this place a great review 8 months ago, but have had to revise my opinion of it. This time I walked in just before 7 pm on a Friday, noted a man apparently wishing a customer good evening or similar, after which he hurriedly cleared the table and left. I set up my laptop and waited for someone from the bar area to come over and take my order, assuming that the restaurant was still open because the hotel's front desk told me they stopped serving around 7:30 or 7:45. There was no one else in the restaurant, and the waiter, manager, or whatever he was, was talking with what looked like customers and employees at the bar, clearly visible from my table. After 10-15 minutes of that, I walked over to the bar and asked whether anyone could take my order. The man said the restaurant closed at 7. I told them that the front desk told me they stopped serving around 7:30 or 7:45. He repeated that the restaurant closed at 7. So I left, although I probably should have pointed out that I was in the restaurant before 7. I doubt that would have mattered, because the attitude I got from this man was, at best, disinterest. Clearly, he didn't feel the need to tell me that the restaurant was closed, nor did he seem to care that I had actually been in the restaurant at 7. Even though I was staying at the hotel that houses the restaurant for two more days, I never ate there, passing up both breakfast and dinner as well as the great view. My previous visit, I had dinner there twice, but for the record, this time I ate no meals there, spent no money there, and decided never to eat there again unless I find that the man I encountered there has...
