I usually don't leave online reviews but today I decided that I will. Today I placed an order at Smokey Jo's which is roughly 10 miles from my house. I ordered chicken fingers and burnt ends and selected the option to have them tossed in BBQ sauce. Shame on me for trusting that the order was correct and not checking the bag. I get home and low and behold there is no BBQ sauce. I can see if they some how forgot to cook them in the sauce. But they didn't have any BBQ sauce on the food or in the bag. So I almost let it be but then I noticed that some of the chicken fingers had been fried with no batter. I order burnt ends office and no that there is a process to smoke them accordingly but these were some of the crappies burnt ends that I have come across as of late. I called the restaurant to voice my concerns. The young lady who answered the phone says "oh we have a new cook in the kitchen, would you like to come back to pick up the BBQ sauce. Well of course I don't want to travel 20 miles for BBQ sauce, not to mentioned they should have been tossed in the sauce when being prepared. The young lady didn't offer to make any ammends so I requested to speak to a manager about it but then they put me on hold for 20 minutes. You can clearly hear someone pick up the phone every few minutes to place me back on hold. I'm usually willing to chalk it up as a bad restaurant experience but in this case I felt as if they were totally dismissive. I expect to be treated better when opting to spend my money with an establishment especially when I choose to skip over so many other options, and tipped the staff for the carryout. With that being said be sure to check your food and play at your own risk but I will not...
Read moreWas excited to try the barbeque because I've had multiple breakfast foods from here that were amazing. Corn beef hash with actual pieces of corn beef with onions and peppers was delicious and their chicken fried steak was also good af as well as the french toast and biscuits and gravy that I've had numerous times. But then I finally got around to trying their smoked chicken and burnt ends and was pretty disappointed. The smoked chicken had a really gamey taste and smell that was really unsurprising unappetizing which is usually indicative of yesterday's chicken. Ordered 3 half chickens and none of us finished them because they were also pretty dry. Never had that before with smoked chicken it's usually moist and delicious. The burnt ends had no caramelization on em at all which is part of the flavor profile and appeal of burnt ends, only plus side on those were at least they were juicy. Don't even get me started with the grilled veggies. They should charge the name to steamed veggies. Overall I was COMPLETELY unsatisfied with the barbeque experience here which is sad because that's what the place is supposed to specialize in. The barbeque sauce wasn't even barbecue sauce, tasted like standard Chicago style mild sauce that you get at wing spots and gyro places. Probably won't be wasting 60 bucks again to give em another try on the barbeque side I can't afford to just throw my money away. Will still get the options I've mentioned from time to time but very disappointed that a self proclaimed smoke shack failed at what's supposed to be...
Read moreThis place has some of the best barbecue that I have had in the northern states.
The ribs are awesome. I've eaten here numerous times already and I know what to expect from the ribs.
My wife and I ate here two nights ago and we both got ribs and hers were smoked perfectly and you could literally smell the smoke on them and they tasted amazing. Mine on the other hand you could not smell any smoke and tasted awful like no smoke flavor at all. They brought me out a different rack of ribs and wow what a difference. They were just like my wife's that smelled and tasted amazing. So I am not sure what happened with the original ribs that I had gotten.
The burger is amazing on a flame charbroiler.
The very first day I ate there I sampled a burnt end and it was the most amazing burnt end that I have ever tasted and the second time I ate there I actually ordered them, but I was massively disappointed. They were dry as a bone like worse than a well done steak dry and completely flavorless. I wanted to try them again, but I have been afraid to waste money after the previous attempt.
The house cut fries are amazing with a garlic parmesan like seasoning that they sprinkle on it.
We have been transporting oversized loads in and out of a nearby facility and the owner has been super generous letting us use part of his parking lot to make the really tight turn there.
So we have all been eating there as much as possible to help bring in some more revenue for the restaurant.
I highly recommend this restaurant and the service...
