Matt's Tavern — Restaurant in Crystal Lake

So this complaint doesn't really come from a "patron" of the bar but I still am really infuriated about my experience here. On my way home from Chicago last weekend I accidentally fell asleep on the last train out of the city after a long day at the Cubs game. I was not wasted but had been reasonably tipsy the whole day. I ended up in Crystal Lake, 30 minutes away from where I live, and ended up finding Matt's Tavern first. I went inside this bar and asked to use a phone seeing as mine had died. The bar tender seemed reluctant but he was willing to help me. I called my family and they didn't answer so I then asked them to call me a cab so I wasn't alone and stranded in the middle of Crystal Lake. (I'm a 21 year old girl if that puts anything into perspective). At this point the owner started being an absolute ass, sitting at the bar obviously wasted started cursing at me telling me to leave since it was last call. The bar tender kept telling me it was okay to stay and for him to call for me but the owner continued yelling and yelling and yelling at me so I left the building. I just can't believe that the owner would treat anyone that way it is absolutely rude and uncalled for. Luckily once the owner left (I hope to god he wasn't driving) the bartender came outside to tell me a cab was on the way. I just can't believe...

Matt's is a pleasant little tavern that's much like the old style neighborhood pubs of the past. It's clean, well managed, extremely good prices when compared to surrounding establishments, and I always find the atmosphere to be welcoming. Bartenders are always helpful and friendly. Matt's has been around for a long time, and is a staple of the Crystal Lake community, but new ownership took-over a couple years ago and has done a great job at revitalizing it without losing the integrity of the bar history. I visited a couple years ago, prior to new ownership, and decided it wasn't the place for me. Went back again after new ownership, and it is now one of my favorites. Any comments in Yelp or Google that are 2 years old or more would not apply to Matt's today. They have a holier then thou attitude. The owner enjoys starting fights with anyone, man or woman. who walks into the place. He is a pig making not only racist comments but sexual as well. I don't even think he is sober ever when he works. He allows under age girls to drink and than drive home-no ID needed. If I could give negative stars I would. I have never had a owner treat me with total lack of respect. The reason was because I have a seizure disorder and have a service dog with me and he didn't like that she had the appropriate ID on but his comment was that dog is not a F#$?ing service dog. So I left and went to Dukes and they were very polite and the service was great I give them 10 stars.
