Cutesy Charm: A small, homey addition to SE Indy. The store is a combination coffee/"trinkets" shop. Aside from breakfast items (& a variety of hot/cold drink options), The Green Bean offers jewelry, art, soaps, candles, body products, crafts, etc.
The vibe is antique, fresh, & feminine. It's niche, but not unheard of. If you frequent downtown areas, you've seen a place like this. I'm not generally interested in the products from similar businesses, but the coffee caught my eye, and there were a few scented candles and soaps I'll consider going back for. All sorts of homemade crafts are available, like crocheted cloths, fabric rosaries, stone bracelets, uniquely-colorful drink coasters, unorthodox jeweled earrings, and much more. The back has a cozy reading area, and I passed by a doorway that said "mud room". 👀
It was my first time in there today, so I kept it simple: a 20 oz. cold-brew. Only cost 4.50 (w/o tip!). The coffee is medium-roast, I believe. Yet, it has the fullness of a dark-roast. In other words, it was bold (but not too bold), and packed noticeable flavor. Oftentimes, I think light & medium roasts are too bland. But the cold brew here is palpable, without the intense bitterness many people have aversion too. If you want a mildish coffee that ALSO won't get lost in your creamer & sugar, The Green Bean has it! As a side note, the weekend staff were amiable and nonchalant.
Truthfully, given that I purchased so little--and that I don't feel drawn to the atmospheres of shops like The Green Bean--I didn't feel it appropriate to just slap five-stars on here. But, if you like local stops like this, The Green Bean may be the perfect addition to your days...
Read moreAwesome local coffee shop in Cumberland. I'm only an occasional coffee drinker, but I'm sure I'll find reasons to keep coming back. The vibe here is cozy and inviting. The two ladies running the place were both very friendly and warm. The coffee drink and breakfast snacks were much better than the chain place, and while maybe a tad more expensive, still a much better value. Seemed like they could make any coffee drink with any ingredients you could ever hope for, and they had a small but adequate selection of pastries and savory breakfast snacks.
They also have local vendors' wares for sale, from candles and soaps to pet trinkets and much more. I'll definitely be back to take a longer look around.
I love to see a place like this thriving in Cumberland. It's a true gem in an area that could really use it. I hope it inspires even more local investment in the neighborhood. And if you're not from the area, it's really easy to get to, lots of parking, or only a 5 minute walk from the Meijer IndyGo stop if you...
