Problem # 1 I have lived in these apartments for over 4 years. Every year the management changes and its always new rules that never stick. Upon moving in I was told that it was a college student who lived there before me and that the person abandoned the unit when going back to school. The details that they forgot to tell me was that the apartment was indeed infested with bedbugs. I did not find this out until 6 months later when other residents in my unit complained about it. Then after being threatened with eviction if I didn't get it treated. I had to pay out off pocket just to get treatments and due to improper scheduling It two weeks to get them out for treatment. 6 months later and 5 treatments in that apartments came out with a policy saying they would take care of treatments as a courtesy if this was the first occurrence. I guess I wasn't included in that being that I was already paying for the treatments myself. I had to call corporate and then they didn't even want to reimburse me half of what I paid.
Problem #2 My rent money was stolen and I was served an eviction notice because of it. When I went to the office I was then told that someone had broke in the office and stole the safe with everyone's money orders in it. WOW!!! what a wonderful way to get my attention. I pay my rent early every month and I have never have been late and you wait 21 days to serve me an eviction notice. Where was the notice when the rent money was stolen. After being told in the unprofessional manner that I was going to have charges filed against me due to a crime, I was told I had to do my own investigation. I had to file my own police report and track down my money order. Just to find out that my money order had been cashed already. Sounds like an inside job. Oh yea I never heard anything back regarding my rent money either. Oh yea it was an inside job.
Problem #3 My " HEAT" has been messed since 12/16/2017. Now mind you this is Saturday. I called the emergency hot line. When telling him my problems he asked me three different ways if the problem could wait until Monday. Then sighed when he said that I will he out in the hour. So finding out that my motor was going out on my furnace. I indeed would have to wait until Monday. I'm sure glad my negotiating skills with the on call maintenance man allowed me to get an answer on Saturday vs. waiting until Monday just to wait till tues SHEESH!!!!!!!! SO MONDAY ROLLS AROUND! So they get the part, that's fine, he is still working on the furnace by the time I get off of work, ok fine as well. After him being there for 2 hours he gets to complaining about how he needs help putting the part in and needs to know if I can wait until tomorrow. I replied no and then tell me he is off the clock and that he needs help. I then told him if could call the on call Maintenance man to help that would fine. So when the on call Gentlemen shows up, I hear the other gentle men say that he actually cut the wires to short on the part and that it actually needs to be replaced. So I guess I was really going to have to wait with no heat. He did leave a heater. I'll give him that small gesture. When the 2 gentlemen leave I notice that the extra copy of my apartment key is laying in the middle of the floor. The next day I had to hid the key for the man to get back in my unit. If I hadn't found it (he called and left a voicemail saying he left the key at his house) I would have had to leave on my lunch break and go and sit with him until the job was done. So you would think that after all that my heat would be fixed. Nope I walked into a cold apartment. I was pissed. No phone call no nothing to inform me that I would be spending the night with no heat again. So I go to the office to see what is taking place only to be receive an apology for the miscommunication. Also to be thankful that its not that cold out. Then the manager seemed to be satisfied with reminding me that the maintenance man did leave me a heater. I NEED HEAT! ITS 12/20 and I still...

It may be easy for you to get approved here but think TWICE!!! The day I was suppose to move in I was assured the manager had done a walk thru and the apartment was ready. Luckily I still had my old house to live in until the end of the month because the apartment was not clean, the commode was stopped up and had urine, feces, toilet paper and cigarettes in it, the furnace tilter had a least 1 inch of dirt on it, the stove looked like it was purchased at a junk yard. The manager replaced the stove and said she would have the apartment cleaned again but it was still dirty when I moved in. I have lived here for 8 months. I have been trying to get someone to do something about the high humidity in my apartment since June 26th. An HVAC technician came out July 7th, the temperature in the apartment was 66 degrees with 70% humidity and that was with a dehumidifier. It extracts 5 gallons of water daily. HVAC said the problem is because the concrete on the patio is broken away from the apartment wall and every time it rains the water collects under my apartment causing the humidity. If a hold was drilled in the floor there would be nothing but mud. Everything in the apartment is damp and now the plaster on the bathroom wall has started to buckle so how long will it be before there is mold if it is not already there. I called the Health Department and there are several violations including cracked ceilings. I also sent an email to the corporate office, I received an email saying the regional manager would contact me but I have not heard from that person. I have also contacted Channel 8 so people can be aware of how bad it is here. My lease is up next month and needless to say I will not be renewing.
UPDATE.
THANK YOU ASSISTANT MNSGER TYRA!!! After notifying the manager about the humidity problem June 26th, 2016 there may be repairs coming soon. The manager was out of the office this week so I spoke to the Assistant Manager. She called in a company to check the humidity level and the source. Everything is in writing this time so NO ONE can say they didn't receive a report. Now I will be waiting to see what happens. This does not change the fact that I will not renew my lease and I still caution you to...

I was relocating from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
My monthly rent is $1000.00 per month for a 4 bedroom townhome, here at berkshire square aparments. It has been the worst renting experience that I have ever had. When I first visited Berkshire square, I was greeted by a professional, happy sales person with a very pleasant bubbly personality. We walked through the apartment together, and I liked what I saw minus some maintenance issues. This was in December of 2015. There were dirty foot prints on the floor ( probably because of showing the apartment and the salt from the ground it was winter ). There was a need for some new screens, light bulbs that were out, and a few other minor issues. She gave me all assurances that these things would be fixed before I moved in, and that all would be super.
January rolled around, i had been working in Indy for about 2 months and needed to get out of the hotel, and into a home. School was out for winter break in fort wayne for my children, and we were ready to start our life in Indianapolis. So we contacted Berkshire square, signed our lease, and began the move in process.
Maintenance issues:
None of the maintenance issues that were identified during the initial walkthrough had been taken cared of when we moved in. With our lease we had a check list that we had to go through to identify further maintenence issues. We found several issues in all the rooms on the checklist. Everything from holes in the doors, doors that were splittin on the seams, fans in bathrooms that were too loud, no screens, heating and cooling system with a very weak air flow. We noticed that the drawers in the kitchen were scantily repaired. As a matter of fact, all of the wood work at close inspection was very subpar. We thought really nothing of it, we’d put it on the list, and things would get repaired. To this day most of the list has not been addressed. ( July 12th )
This was as much as I could post on a review due to character limitations, but I have much more to write so i will attempt another...
