I went to Seoul Garden last night for the first time. Actually, it was my first time ever trying Korean food, other than having Kimchi (which I love.) When I arrived about 5:15PM on Thursday, there was a sign on the door stating that they were closed for lunch. Undeterred, I checked the door, and it was unlocked. Fortunately, there were two other families in there eating dinner, so I don't think I disturbed the workers' lunch. :)
I sat down and was helped within minutes by a friendly waitress who gave me a menu and took my drink order. My drink arrived quickly, I made my selection, Chicken Bulgogi, and waited. The waitress stopped by to make sure I didn't need anything, and when I confessed that I was pretty terrible with chopsticks and asked for a fork, she smiled and brought me a fork. The food came out a few minutes later piping hot. Like really hot. Like there was oil from the hot plate spattering everywhere. The table, my iPhone, the skin on my tender nerd arm. Everywhere. It was glorious!
I took one bite and knew I had made the right choice. I love spicy food, and this had the right amount of heat to it. When the waitress brought my food, I was surprised that there wasn't a plate. I took ingredients off the ingredient plate, added them to some of the meat, stuck them in the rice bowl, and lifted it to my mouth. A few bites into my meal, I Googled "How to eat Korean food" after wiping the oil off my phone. I awkwardly discovered that it's considered rude to lift the rice out of the bowl in Korean culture. I'm sure the workers there were chuckling at the uneducated goober trying to eat their delicious food.
I'll definitely go back! The food was great, and the service was great. I can't wait to try other items...
Read moreI got the #5 which they have pictured on this web site and on the wall of their restaurant. The pictures show a mound of beef with green vegetables, mushrooms, and onions but what I got for a grand price of $18.95 was a couple of slices of white onion and maybe 8-10 very small 1 inch pieces of grizzly, fatty thin slices of beef. Their were no mushrooms and no greens and barley enough to feed a small child. I could hardly believe it. The other 2 people I went with 1 got a spicy shredded beef soup and the other one got a traditional beef soup. These soups were suppose to com with rice noodles which they did but very few. The meat that was in the traditional beef soup was laden with so much grizzle that my friend had a hard time chewing it and wound up spitting it into a paper napkin. Both soups were 95% water with little to nothing in them. The spicy soup had a good flavor my friend said but no substance. The service was average to subpar. We had to ask for water refills a few times as the water glass is a small Childrens size cup. I would not recommend this place unless you like to spend a lot of $ and get very little to nothing for it. Also almost everything on the menu has sugar on it so forget this place if you are watching you sugar consumption. I was very disappointed with this restaurant. Oh and they close at 9:30 pm sharp on...
Read moreThis was me and my mom's first time ever trying Korean food. We have seen Seoul Garden before many times in passing but never got around to trying it until today. We aren't obviously accustomed to the Korean palette but more of the typical American palette so, we are reviewing from that perspective. Our order consisted of the 6 piece fried beef dumplings, the beef sirloin, and the Bibimbob, along with the side dishes. Both of us tried everything and our favorite was the beef dumplings, which was so good. The beef sirloin was also pretty good. Neither of us liked the Bibimbob meal though, especially the hot sauce that came with it but my mom was able to polish it off with the soy sauce that came with the beef dumplings. We also didn't like most of the side dishes. I think it was because we aren't accustomed to the red spices used on the food. For trying Korean food for the first time, it wasn't a bad experience though. I would definitely consider coming back again and trying out some of the other dishes. Edit to my review: My mom ended up reacting to what we ate and vomited a lot. So far I have not had a reaction but I think it's because I had less of the Bibimbob meal than she did. I'm not sure if it was because of the quality of the food or if just didn't sit...
