As a professional in marketing I can see they have done the usual new business google review padding; with reviews from people invested in the success of this new coffee spot. As an actual resident of this community who loves all the unique coffee house options in the area, I will give a honest and objective review.
Atmosphere: Is beautiful and enticing. This coffee house is probably the most beautifully designed of all the coffee shops in the area. It definitely makes one want to get cozy with a tasty beverage and relax. Unfortunately that’s the only positive aspect of this place.
Service/staff: Both my husband and I were excited to have a coffee place within walking distance to our home. In the past week we have both come by to try Kona. We were both very disappointed. The staff are very unfriendly, they don’t greet you when you walk in ( I’m not expecting Starbucks friendly which can be a bit inauthentic ) they were visibly annoyed by menu questions ( which are hard to avoid since the drinks don’t have descriptions). Frankly the attitude of the staff was borderline rude. On my second visit ( my attempt to give it another try) I was greeted with a sign barring children from coming in without their parents. Well, I certainly understand not wanting young kids from the elementary school or maybe even the middle school to flood in without their parents. However, after asking for clarification on if this applied to teenagers the lady at the register rudely said yes, it does and reiterated that they cannot come in without parental supervision. It is certainly their prerogative to bar whoever they like from coming into their establishment, but I’m a little confused as to why they opened a coffee shop near a high school and middle school If they did not want that demographic patronizing their shop. Frankly, it seems like bad business to me, this is a quite suburb so I’m not sure what they’re so concerned about. My main concern is that they are unfriendly, unwelcoming and rude. The service is basically nonexistent.
Food/beverages: My first visit I got a pressed juice and an almond croissant. Honestly, both were good not great but good. That is probably the reason why I decided to come back and give the service another chance. My second visit as I said I was greeted with poor service and the barring of certain customers, I had planned on getting a croissant again but they were burnt looking and clearly overcooked, which forced me to default to a scone. The scone was awful, artificial tasting and just downright nasty. I threw it away before I even walked out the door. I had low expectations for the Aloha latte that I ordered after the scone, and my expectations were met. The latte was pure sugar, the espresso tasted burnt, and the beverage was steamed lukewarm. I poured it out as soon as I got home. Total waste of money.
Overall, this place has bad service, bad food, and an aversion to serving young adults and teenagers. The only thing going for it is the beautiful decor but that is easily forgotten after being greeted by unfriendly faces and receiving low quality, food beverages. The prices aren’t bad, but I wouldn’t spend another dollar here. I will stick to all of the other options in the community where I will feel good about money well spent on food, beverages and services where they don’t discriminate against young people.
Some advice: This is a family centered community not the heights, it’s tone deaf to put a sign like that...
Read moreYou had me at aloha 🌺 I've been driving past Kona Reserve this week, and by the third day told myself I definitely need to stop by. I'm so glad I did! They've been open for about a month now, and I can tell they will become a neighborhood staple. The vibe was clean, chill, and just the right amount of plants. The background music was nice, but not distracting if you're trying to study. I saw a few girls working on their laptops so plenty of outlets and a couple tables of girlfriends catching up over their lattes. The baristas were friendly and helpful. I ordered their spam musibi and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived fresh and hot. I also got their popular Aloha Latte. I enjoyed it, and I can't wait to try their other drinks, I got my eye on the toffee mocha blended drink. Be sure to stop by and give...
Read moreKona Reserve Super, super cute spot! The coffee is so good — you can really tell the baristas take their time and care with every drink. Everything I’ve tried has been great, and the food’s just as awesome. I love that the smoothies taste more natural and fresh, not overly sweet. The white chocolate macadamia (hot or iced) is so good — one of my favorites. The caramel macchiato (hot or iced) is 100.
The musubis are really delicious. The spam and avocado with rice and egg combo is perfect — super flavorful, filling, and feels like real, fresh food, not processed. Prices are pretty much like Starbucks, but you’re getting way better quality and freshness, so it’s...
