This used to be our usual Kalbi place for last several years. However during the last few visits we had experienced some poor food quality(Kalbi rib meat was rubbery and chewy, and the octopus in the seafood hot pot was very hard to eat)and not so friendly service(it was a challenge to communicate with waitresses which caused some miscommunication). However today’s encounter topped the most ridiculous experience ever for us. we were asked to leave because we did not order enough entrees but got some free miso soup per Manager Sam. I have ordered marinated Kalbi rib($21.95)(wanted try it again), seafood tofu soup($10.99)seafood pancake($12.99) and tried to order the steamed egg. We planned to eat relatively light tonight after having Pilates. The waitress was very rude and indifferent and expressed unwillingness to order the steamed egg and we did not understand why. Later the manager Sam came to tell us that because we did not order enough entrees to order side dish(steamed egg)??. I agreed not to order it then. After that he looked our table and asked if we know that we can only get one complimentary soup per entree order. I said we did not know this. Is this new rule? We have dined here for years. He said it has been some new changes since he became manager. Then I questioned him that why he did not tell us last time we were here. He answered he was too busy and overlooked. Then we asked him if he mentioned that rule to other customers there. He said he has not yet. So I questioned if he is discriminating against us. He immediately said he would like us to leave. We traveled a lot all over the world and dined at a lot of restaurants, this has been the strangest experience so far. For Sam, I don’t think he cares at all about your dining experience, customer service, all he cares is how much you order. You might be busy enough now and do not care about losing some customers. In the near future: Poor food quality + Rude service = No more businesses. If you want to enjoy your meal(not in a smoky environment) with good service and quality food, go...
Read moreI have been coming to Koryo Kalin for 4 years and at least 3-4 times a month. Not only that I have introduced probably 20 plus people and always recommend coming to this place with a group of big family. I also tip 20% minimum and order always more than I can eat and take it home for leftovers. Now, you look at the 1 star and here is why. I took my girlfriend and ordered 3 meals and couple of drinks. The service was a little slow and I noticed a few new waiters so I was okay. One of our orders came out after we almost finished the meal btw... that’s how slow the orders came in. I looked over that and got my last beer I ordered 15 minutes into the order and when I was about to leave. I received my check 2 minutes after I received my drink and I asked for two to go boxes and one rice to go. The WAITER forgot!!!!’ I get the bill and I pay my normal 20% tip for the bad service and then I noticed they did not charge me extra for the rice that I asked for and so I gave them $5 extra dollars.... the manager who I waived and asked for a bowl of rice brought me half a bowl of rice then told me if I ask while eating it’s “free” but if I take it to go they normally charge me.... that did not sit well with me and I’m writing this review as I hear up the leftover with the half ass rice that I actually paid $5 and paid for bad service 20%. The manager or owner who I’ve see all the time should think twice and go check his crew and maybe bite there tongue before Offending a good client. Not worth coming to a place with poor service there are plenty of new good...
Read moreAmazing Korean BBq experience. Food tastes great. Prices are high but the quantity is huge, so I would recommend only going if you have a group of 4-5 people. that way you can also sample more food. I went their along with 4 friends. The five of us feasted on their Kimchi Jeon (Kimchi Pancake), Haemul Pajeon (seafood Pancake), Teriyaki Dubu (sauteed tofu and vegies), Gogooryo Combination (different cuts of beef) BBQ, Maewun Dwaeji Bulgogi (grilled Pork). The food came along with the regular condiments and side dishes including salads, spiced cabbage, fish cakes, spiced cucumber, sweet potato, tofu soup, egg, sesame sauce, some sauces for the Pancakes, some sauces for the meat, we also got ginger tea at the end of our meal. The price for all this (split 5 ways) came out to $37/- per person, which may seem like a lot, but you don't eat (or rather feast) like this everyday. (At least I don't). It was worth the taste, and quantity of the food served to us, as well as the hospitable nature of the stewardess who took care of our table. She personally did all the BBQing on our table's grill and made sure we knew which condiments go with which food. Parking may be difficult as the lot is not quit big and there are a few competitive Korean restaurants in the vicinity (Korea Town). Overall, a great new find, great place to take friends (once in a while). An absolute gastronomical delight. NOTE: of all the Korean restaurant's in the area, it is very difficult to find vegetarian options, but this place has 4 vegetarian...
