I've lived in Dallas for almost 11-years and while I've always wondered about the blue and white restaurant that is located off of Northwest Hwy, I've never made time to visit until today. Well, that was a waste of my time and money. My overall experience was just meh-okay and I will not ever recommend this place to anyone.
I'm disappointed in the fact that the manager and bartender tried to hustle me. I saw two types of tequilas under the same brand name and I wanted to try the one I hadn't yet tasted. I knew the one that I hadn't tried should have been cheaper than the other, but the manager stated that they were the same pricing. The pricing of the shots (both of them were $25), so Instead of trying the one I had not yet tried, I decided to just get a single shot of my usual tequila.
When I asked the bartender to just add the drink to my total bill, because I wanted to dine outside on their patio, he insisted that he get my credit card and hold until I was done eating. Me: "Well, I don't want to have my card swiped twice." The bartender, "Oh that's okay, I won't. I just need to hold it just case you decide to run off on me." I tried overlooked that insult because I thought he might have been joking. Me again: " Okay, but don't open a tab."
The bartender proceeded to follow me outside as my waiter, which was fine. However, while eating outside in their patio area, I was joined and annoyed by some random friends named nats, which are never a good sign for any restaurants.
When the bartender asked if I was ready after finishing my meal, I said, "Yes, please bring my bill but don't swipe my card until I see the bill".
My credit card was still swiped before I saw the bill and over charged for a shot of tequila at $30 (which was already overpriced at $25 earlier). Mind you, I've ordered the same type of tequila at dozens of high end restaurants for almost half the cost.
I had to go back into the restaurant regarding the overcharge and the manager was hesitant about voiding the transaction. I stood at the bar waiting for the transaction to be corrected for another 10 minutes before she decided to void the transaction.
This place and service is not worth your time nor...
Read moreVery disappointing that Stratos has changed so much over the years (not for better).
The food was hit and miss -Gyro and Tzatziki/w pita was tasty but the other items were lacking in flavor. Dolma’s were just ok and Moussaka was bland. Since they don't have kids meals had to order off regular adult size menu- ordered catfish (extremely strong fishy flavor & I like catfish), chicken tenders (hey it's a chicken tender) and fettuccine alfredo (it's a Greek restruant so don't waste your time...also ordered it w/grilled chicken (for a kid) but was served spicy Cajun blackened chicken)
Service was slow and restruant was fairly empty. We had to get our own silverware, ordered drinks and had to remind server when bringing appetizer out about them.
My biggest dislike was the ambiance. Stratos is having an identity crisis- are you a restruant, nite club or serving bar food , Mexican food or Greek? Oh wait you are doing it all at the same time!! 7:30pm on a Sunday we are in a Greek restruant, listening to latin music play and watching two huge screens show psychedelic dance club images while we eat.
I'd rather go to a Greek restruant that specializes in traditional greek food...not hot wings, nachos, enchiladas, queso... you get my point. The Latin music playing didn't set the mood for a Greek Isles experience I'd hoped not to mention the huge screens playing "mind altering" images over what I'm assuming becomes a dance floor at night.
Sad....so much potential lost but guess when you can turn your restruant into a Latin dance club open until 2am it's probably not as profitable to just have a Greek restruant. I'd recommend skipping Stratos and checking out some of the other places in town that focus on...
Read moreUsed to be my favorite greek place in Dallas. Will not return! I visited last night and ordered a sampling of food. First the spanikopita was reheated in the microwave and so it was Soggy, It should have been crisp and flaky. Dissapointing! Then I tried the Avgolemno soup a childhood favorite of mine. It was ladden with big chunks of uncooked carrots (not described on the menu) and didn't taste like lemon at all, gross! I realized too late that they wanted you to put the lemon in yourself. It would have been nice if the server would have told me this. I though the lemon slice was decoration. I complained about the carrots and the no lemon flavor and yet the item remained on my bill. The simple gyro is the only way to go at this restaurant. But it's just an $11 gyro with yummy fries. Beware that they charge you 75 cents for extra tziki sauce of which they give you Very Little to start with. The mousaka was a real dissapointed as well. I finished with the baklava...another all-time greek favorite of mine. How can you ruin that you ask? Well Stratos did it with flying colors. Again reheated in the microwave so you get a sad and soggy dessert that should be flaky and delicious. Sadly,it gets worse! They splattered raspberry and chocolate drizzle all over it...abysmal! My heart sank! The belly dancing show was amateur-ish, she spend 8 mins on stage. When she was on the floor whwn aomeone gave her a tip, she stopped dancing, cocked on one hip and talked to the table for 5 mins...they were tipping for dancing, not company. I was overall extremely dissapointed and will not return. I kept thinking the entire time, this place needs a real Gordon Ramsey overhaul! They need...
