Mariscos El Cuhhhmaron — Restaurant in Dalton

If I was told “You have one last meal: Time to choose” this place would be in the debate (and I’ve been to Gramercy Tavern in NYC multiple times.)

My daughter and I walked in last night and were greeted warmly and sat immediately. The server was so nice and welcoming, and patiently answered our questions. We ordered ceviche and fried shrimp to start. Fried shrimp came out fast and hot, ceviche bright and cold, and both dishes were the best that we have ever had. And trust me I’m old and love seafood so I know what I’m talkin’ bout, Willis.

Then we had a fried shrimp taco and fried fish taco. Both were also the best we have had: Cooked perfectly with light batter. Large portion stacked high on the tortilla. Flavors mixed perfectly. Fresh tasting as if we just caught it. And yes I’ve caught fish and netted shrimp and cooked it immediately before.

We also splurged and had to try one of their crispy loaded french fry dishes with grilled shrimp and seasoned steak on it. I wish I had another stomach to have completed the consumption of this dish, because it was absolutely on the money as well as being worth the money.

We both remarked afterwards that this place would easily be worth a drive from Atlanta on special occasions. It was that good.

I did not take photos of our food because I’m not a product of the instant gram generation. And pictures do not convey the flavor. You’re supposed to eat the food not take and look at pictures of it.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and go here and eat. Afterwards you will think back to this review and be happy you took the time to read it and followed my advice. You will be so thrilled that you will want to Venmo me. But I only take American Express...

This is by far one of the best restaurants/bars in Dalton. The duality of it is one of the reasons why it’s so great. I love going here for a quick lunch with my friends during the week or for a night out during the weekends. It’s always such a fun but also relaxing environment.

The food here is incredible! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but my favorites are the shrimp ceviche tostada and the garlic butter shrimp plate. You always get such hearty amount of food that always leaves me full and satisfied.

I love the drinks on a night out as well. The bartenders are always so attentive and cheery. My favorite drink is the tamarind margarita, definitely try it next time you’re there!

But on top of all that, it’s the service that sends the experience over the top. I believe that many places can provide good food but only a few can provide the service that the Cuhh provides. The owner Joe is extremely attentive and makes it a goal to check on customers, personally going to tables and asking if everything is to their liking. You can tell that he is a big part of the community by the amount of friendly faces that approach him. He truly makes you feel like you’re a friend or even family as soon as you step into the door.

After some drama at the St Louis tournament my son and I left a day early towards Tampa. Found a midpoint town in GA called Dalton, carpet capital of the world, to spend the night and ended up in the town center around 10pm looking for a bite. The only place serving was a mexican establishment packed full. The owner outside saw we were looking for a meal and proceeded to let us know about his super fresh mexican seafood. He also waived the cover while we wondered why there was a cover in the first place. Got our wristband and entered and found a good table.

Turns out it was the world boxing title featuring a mexican fighter. Not only was it a heck of a show but without doubt the best Mexican meal I’ve ever had on my life. And I’ve been all over Mexico. So fresh, so good! Who would have thought this superb place was all the way out here. The husband and wife were at the door when we exited and they were so nice and welcoming. The beer battered fish was not greasy or heavy and just perfectly cooked. The green Aguachile was sooo good. I would only ask they have a smaller portion as a starter since it was a lot of food.
