My favorite sandwich shop in Dana Point, hands down! I have been coming here for years with friends and not once have I been disappointed. The service is friendly, orders come out quickly and the food is delicious! The uniquely named sandwiches are big, generously packed with ingredients. Trust me, you won’t leave hungry! Aside from sandwiches, they offer soups, salads, bagels/ bagel sandwiches, fresh squeezed juices, cookies (I have to get one every time), and shakes. Dine inside, where they have plenty of seating,TVs playing sports games and books for sale, or dine on the outdoor patio with a peekaboo view of Dana Point Harbor from one block away.
*For a more cost-effective experience, order a large sandwich and split it with a friend!
*Must try: Regardless of what sandwich you get, order it on their squaw bread, it’s sweet, healthy, and delicious! Also, their house dressing is great on cold sandwiches. In fact, it’s so great I’ve had friends drive back the next day to buy some dressing to keep at home. FYI They sell their dressing in nicely packaged glass bottles for you to put on homemade sandwiches at home!
*First timers: I recommend “Rosa’s Best” sandwich on squaw bread. It’s their most popular sandwich for a reason! It’s yummy and has so many ingredients that would have been more expensive to add on if you were to order a different sandwich (e.g. bacon & avocado).
*For an outdoor experience with more amazing views than their patio seating, walk one block West on Blue Lantern towards Dana Point Harbor and enjoy your sandwich on the benches at the vista point on the cliffs!
All in all, great place for fresh & resonably priced sandwiches! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s hungry! I will definitely keep coming back. Thanks Tutor & Spunkys for another...
Read moreWhen I'm in the mood for a solid sandwhich and want to go local, this is THE spot. If you live in Dana Point, you know what I'm talking about. I've been here easily hundreds of times and have NEVER had an issue. Ok, full disclosure...I used to work around the corner on Saturdays and EVERY Saturday we'd get Tutor & Spunky's. Sometimes they would get our order wrong, but that's the only negative. Whenever this happened, they were apologetic and made things right. I've never had a sandwich or salad there that I didn't like. Honestly. If you're feeling healthy, their Good Feet Salad is delicious and "yuge." And it won't leave you feeling all bloated and sleepy. My fave sammies are, in order, Rosa's Best (Turkey/Bacon/Avo), Kelly's Classic (Tuna) and their Pastrami.
I have gluten issues and their gluten free bread, which I believe they get from costco, almost tastes like real bread and is one of my favorites. They also have tasty gluten free cookies which are made locally in San Juan.
If you're an older gentleman or woman, this place has a unique aspect to it. They have books you can buy about dating after 50 or something like that. I haven't paid too much attention to it because I still have 15 years or so ;)
And I love their little back deck which has an ocean view. Or I'll grab my order and walk down to the gazebo overlooking the harbor. You really can't go wrong.
The only other sandwich place I go to is Board 'n Brew, but their only GF option is a wrap. So when I want a bonafide stuffed sandwich this is the only...
Read moreMy wife and I were on vacation in San Juan Capistrano for a week. We are from San Fernando which is just north of Los Angeles. My wife and I were driving and we noticed the sign THE BEST IN TOWN. We went on a hike and worked up an appetite and we decided to stop and get some food here before we went to the beach ⛱️. We ordered our food. They have a big variety to choose from. We decided to eat some here before we went to the beach. We opened our sandwiches and they were packed and so delicious. We sat down and ate some and took the rest to the beach. Our sandwiches made the afternoon at the beach perfect. Whenever we are nearby again we will definitely be stopping by. You have to come and try them you...
