I spent over $40 here on Milkweed for a Monarch Butterfly garden I tend. Less thanks 24 hours later, every monarch caterpillar that touched the plants, soil or ate the leaves suffered death by systemic poison.

Absolutely devastating to the garden as it killed over 20 butterfly caterpillars within hours. When I called Dana Point Nursery to report what had happened, the person on the phone told me she was “really sorry that this had happened” and asked me which plants so she could pull them from the floor.

No offer to refund my purchase.

Question the integrity of a business that sells any type of nursery plant treated with systemic poison and tells you they’re “sorry” after it wrecks havoc in the garden. And when approached with the results, no offer to take the plants back or correct their gross and devastating oversight. Systemic poison is dangerous to children, pets and humans, not just Monarch Butterfly...

I have been coming here for years with my best friend. I can't believe that I'm just now reviewing this beautiful garden center. This review and my pictures are from early June '25. If you are a local, I'm sure you know about DPN, however, it is well worth an afternoon jaunt to OC to shop here. DPN has a wide selection of perennials, annuals, succulents/cacti, conifers, herbs, fruits, veggies, indoor/tropicals. Also in stock are fertilizers, decorative rock, garden tools, potting media, pots/containers, gifts for gardeners, and much more. Plants are well taken care of and are competitively priced. Rex rocks! The last time I had a plant (and unintentionally killed it) was 1983, so I was wary about whether or not I could take care of plants, despite how much I enjoy them.

Rex offered me the most excellent advice in caring for the two plants I bought, and reassured me that I could keep them alive with simple yet effective practices. It is evident that Rex knows and loves plants, and Rex is a wealth of wisdom for the customers.
