Dana Point Marina Inn — Hotel in Dana Point

This place is so scandalous! I stayed here over the weekend with my boyfriend and my 6 month old son for a little mini family vacation for my boyfriend’s birthday. The total was 652.87 which I paid on my card and then received a receipt for at the end of my stay. I go home and Tuesday morning go to view my account and they charged me this amount which came out so they received their money. I then see another pending charge from them for another 652.87 and another pending charge for 750.80 (absolutely no idea where this amount came from not even anything I was charged or should’ve been charged). My card is from disability for my maternity leave so there is no actual bank to go into it’s a money network prepaid card that disability deposits on the money to every two weeks. I contacted them but they informed me because it’s pending there isn’t much they can do I’d have to contact the merchant. The problem is it’s reflecting on my balance so as of now my balance is reflecting 2,056.54 in charges for ONE WEEKEND at this place. They said they’re either trying to charge me more than once or have holds on my account right now. They told me what the merchant can provide them which was simple a letter on a letter head. It simply has to have my name the last four digits of my card the amount charged and date. It also needs a managers signature with a statement stating that they will not be processing anymore payments and the pending charges will not be posted to my account. I called the inn and they are refusing. Telling me to talk to the bank. I explained the situation clearly multiple times and they are not willing to help me. They provided a receipt which doesn’t help because that charge is valid and I’m not disputing that it is. In all my years of staying at hotels I’ve never had a place do multiple holds or charges especially after receiving their money especially for an amount that doesn’t reflect any correct pricing or payment they’d receive. It’s now been almost a week and these charges are still reflecting my account. I could see if it was security deposit but I was never told about a security deposit not a 1400 dollar security deposit for a very basic hotel. It is extremely sad that they’re willing to rip off anybody but especially a new mother trying to enjoy a needed vacation with her family. Not only would they not help they kept saying different things. They said one they didn’t see any holds or additional charges. Then they said they were authorizations that would fall off. They have been nothing but rude and disrespectful. They told me to reach out to disability as well which clearly has no bearing on the situation and they won’t be able to do anything about the situation. That was another excuse they used that it was a glitch in disabilities system. I offered to bring in bank statements but they said no they can’t and won’t be able to help me with this. I would never ever stay here again. And will obviously have to take this even further since I can’t seem to get answers. I’ve asked to be speak to higher ups but apparently all they have is one manager who was very very very rude. Be careful with this place. I’m gonna keep posting reviews until somebody here is willing to at least try and help me with this which they have been nothing but extremely rude. I stayed here last weekend Friday through Sunday and they are scandalous. Never had this kind of issue here until this past weekend. Never had an issue like this in general at a hotel ever. They charged me 652.87 which is the correct amount and they got paid in full. We went for a mini vacation and left with about 1400 extra being reflected on our account from this company. I’m a new mom who was using my MATERNITY LEAVE money to do something nice for my boyfriend! I’ve contacted the money network company but because the charges are pending they can’t do much. Plus they are not an actual bank it’s a prepaid card you get when on disability. They informed me to reach out to the merchant who they said is either holding authorizations or trying to do multiple charges that haven’t been finalized yet. I reached out requesting a simple letter on a letter head. Stating the amount the last four of my card number the date a manager signature and a statement saying the other pending transactions won’t reflect my account or post but they REFUSED to give me this!! They gave me the run around both a female and a male stating they didn’t know what the charges were they couldn’t see it on their end. Then when I explained it was disability card and quite different than a regular card they told me it was a glitch in disabilities system. Then they stated they were authorizations that would fall off!! They told me to contact EDD which I explained EDD doesn’t have anything to do with this it’s them! I offered to bring in bank statements and they refused to see them or me. This place is unwilling to help and it’s sad they will do this to people and especially a new mother. Booked a room shown with a view, said no ocean views for any standard room. Ok….|As the deadpan front desk young man took my info and gave us our keys…. No other conversation…No have a nice stay, no thank you, no nothing…. |Ok…|We had driven 4 hours and just quickly put our bags in the room, then walked down to the marina. | In first look, it didn’t look bad, a little dated with a bad paint job. ||The Marina inn used to be really nice! Packed and bustling. This WAS the nice place to stay. ||We had a room the night before in Corona that was beautiful spotless, classy, totally updated, and had a security guard to watch the cars at night|And we paid Less! ||Oh BTW be prepared to pay $15. a night to park!! Not mentioned when I called to book!|| Marina itself has suffered…all the shops were occupied, lots of people shopping. Now… I’d say about 26% occupied. So sad. ||I saw migrants with backpacks walking through the marina. ||I grew up in this area, I worked in the Harbor, it was clean, well kept with many tourists and shoppers! ||At least the Brig restaurant is still open! A cute Pizza shop, and another small restaurant by the Brig were open. The large restaurants were also open, at least one nearby was. ||Our room when we explored later was awful! The clean out drain on the bathroom wall side was moldy, the drain clearly rusted and water damaged and painted over badly, very creepy. Baseboards had peeling paint. We couldn’t even take a shower!!||The bathroom tub actually had a long deep crack that was open to the inside of the tub! If I had stepped inside and not looked, I definitely would have cut my feet. There was black moldy rot on the ceiling.. ( I have photos of all of this) in more than one place. ||Peeling paint in many places and under the air conditioner (very old) you could see where they stopped painting with a different color. The chair was horrible! |My husband sat in it and the arm parts swiveled off the base… dirty with peeling fake fabric. It looked like it was picked up from the garbage dump.
