My wife and I have loved this place for years. It is not fine dining but the food is great and the fry is hot and crispy. I went on May 4 for take out, our fist time eating out in over a month. My expectations were that to the extent possible, the take out process would be handled in a way that protected the food and patrons from COVID exposure. Unfortunately this was not the experience I had. The online ordering system is good but when I arrived to pick up there were three or more people waiting inside the front vestibule and one was not wearing a mask. I waited outside and watched as food was brought to a staging area table six feet from the waiting patrons and left there for the twenty minutes before being bagged. Management did not say one word to the mask less person during the 20 minutes I was watching and waiting for my food. These three patrons stood there talking to each other and on their phones six feet from a table full of food for various orders. Another table was blocking passage but there was no barrier of any kind to stop breath or vapors from these patrons from exposing the food. The three patrons were waiting before I arrived and were in the small enclosed space after I left. My choice was to leave without my food or go into this small space, far too close for safety under the current conditions to check to see if the bagged orders, placed on the table immediately in front of the waiting patrons was mine. What was so disappointing was all the management had to do was to ask the people to wait outside. It would have been just as easy and safer for patrons and employees for employees to take three extra steps and bring the orders out to the patrons and avoid anyone waiting inside. The fact that management could not figure this out made me wonder what other sanitation issues they could not identify and handle in an appropriate manner. I was under the naive impression that retail food establishments had to have sanitary training but this was not evident from my experience. I tried to contact the store but no telephone number seems to work - not even the number on the receipt. I even went to the back door while I was waiting, which was open (not uncommon for restaurants) and called inside to try to get someone’s attention but got no response. We have loved the food for years, but will not be going back. Getting sick is...
Read moreIf you’re looking for high quality and alternative cuisine, undoubtedly PhoVietnam is a great place to check out. However to me, the environment is really what leaves a lot to be desired.
I went to PhoVietnam for the first time years ago post-COVID. I was impressed by the spring rolls, the pho, and the quick manner by which the food was served.
I stopped by quickly after work on a Thursday night and something about the restaurant just didn’t feel as “magical.” There was still a sign on the door announcing COVID hours, (4 years post-COVID), the restaurant was empty, and the interior didn’t feel warm and welcoming. Boxes were stacked to the ceiling and it would have been nice to have some sort of counter environment to order takeout. Ordering was fast and simple, but you can tell that the restaurant is really geared towards delivery apps as opposed to in store customers.
After ordering, I went outside to wait in my car for my food to be ready. I was pleasantly surprised that the 15 minute wait time was accurate and the gentleman who took my order was nice enough to bring my order out to me.
For my food I ordered a Bun Bowl with Grilled Pork and a Taro Bubble Tea and paid a little over $19.
If you’re ordering Bubble Tea here, be mindful that PhoVietnam serves their’s frozen. Never having had “frozen” bubble tea before, I felt like I wasted my money. The flavor of the taro root was too muted and the texture of the tapioca pearls wasn’t enjoyable.
In terms of the Bun Bowl, I liked all of the elements. The noodles, peanuts, mint, and various springs came together nicely, but as a whole, I just felt like the dish was missing something. The pork was a tad dry and while the dressing complimented the dish, it didn’t add enough of the flavor punch that I was looking for.
To me, I just feel that while the food at PhoVietnam is good, I’m going to venture here and say that they’re a tad overrated. Perhaps, I’ll stop in again and try something else on the menu, but I think there’s better Asian restaurants in the area that are more likely to “hit the spot” for a...
Read morePho Vietnam? More like Pho-NOMINAL! I first visited this resreraunt a little over a month ago, and coincidentally it was my first time eating Vietnamese food. I am by no means a picky eater, but there are certain areas I am not quite ready to venture into just yet, so while I was slightly deterred by the options of 'beef tendon' and 'tripe' and the like as the filler for my soup, I was also enticed by the options of 'beef brisket' and for perhaps the average not-so-adventurous American, just plain 'beef'.
Do not underestimate me when I say that this was my number one, uncontested best $10.00 I have ever spent on a meal in my life. The beef was lean, flavorful, and cooked to a firm but tender perfection. The brisket was a bit fatty for my own tastes, but the meat a gold mine of flavor. The rice noodles were endless. Simply put, I was flabbergasted when my pho arrived. I ordered an extra large and it filled me from lunch through dinner.
As for the taste, it is definitly different, but very good, and every day for the past month I have been itching to return. Of course there are plenty of other options on the menu; for example I had the pleasure of trying the red curry chicken, which proved to be another dish well woth its value. The appetisers we ordered were divided in excellency, some that I would call 'good', but others that were simply superb. And there truly is something for everyone.
For those in the Danbury area, if you are going out or feel like trying something new, you would be remiss not to pay this little gem a visit. With good food, fast and friendly service, and hopefully some good company, you'll be leaving with a fully belly within an hour; and wanting to return from the...
