This is a review of the SERVICE I DIDN'T EAT THERE because of the beyond obnoxious treatment.

I wanted to go with my daughter for FATHERS DAY for breakfast because she works in the evening at a restaurant herself.

I CALLED BEFORE and asked if we come at 1:30, would it be OK. (seeing they close at 2 and I'm trying to be considerate and not show up at the last minute) I was told yes by the woman who answered the phone.

I drove up from New York to meet my daughter.

When we arrived (1:33), we are told they are closed. I explained that I called and was told it would be fine.

The person who greeted us went to another server who SLAMMED HER HANDS ON THE COUNTER and then began to argue that they can't seat people after 1:30. After a few minutes of listening to the 3 employees argue over us, we said we are leaving, then another woman came over and said 'I didn't know you were the people who called and I said it was ok, so you can stay.'

We sat down (against my daughter's wishes who pointed out how rude it was for them to argue about us in front of us).

While we were looking at the menu, we heard the CHEF yelling at the server to tell us no lunch menu, only breakfast (we didn't want lunch so we thought ok) then we hear him yell at her to quickly get our order.

Then we hear him complaining he doesn't know what we want yet (we had been sitting for 3 minutes and it is only 1:40)

THEN I hear him yelling how they can't be seating people after 1:30 and we decided we HAD ENOUGH.

IF YOU DON'T WANT MY BUSINESS I'M NOT GOING TO FORCE YOU TO TAKE IT.

If you are open until 2 but don't want anyone coming in the last half hour, CHANGE YOUR HOURS TO 1:30.

I've never been so rudely treated in my 55 years. Happy 'go to hell' fathers day with my daughter from Sonny Side Up!

My daughter JUST MOVED TO DANBURY and was looking for a place to eat breakfast near her.

It takes a lot to get a loyal lifetime customer, but only a minute to lose one for...

Sonny’s is an excellent choice for a simple, honest breakfast filling the gap for New Fairfielders after the Luncheonette closed.

Sonny’s is open during the morning until 2 pm allowing plenty of time to stop in for a breakfast or lunch.

We each had an omelette- like another reviewer said - which was stuffed full of your choice of ingredients. I had their Geno’s omelet which was filled with bacon, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese. Neatly folded it made a pretty presentation unlike other diners or cafes whose omelets are like a placemat folded in half. My husband had the special - their Mexican omelet which had a festive array of cheese, salsa, veggies and more. But the highlight of the breakfast for us was their grits. I’m not fond of home fries - too big and chunky for me, so their grits were a great substitute. They are heavenly - they were creamy with the grits apparent, thick with a pat of butter. We add some salt and pepper and enjoyed. Why am I focusing a review on a simple side dish? My husband is from the deep South where grits are the mainstay side dish to every breakfast. The grits served here were just like the best grits he had from down south. Most places up here serve thin, runny grits that are too gritty. Properly done takes cooking them slow and long so the grits break down somewhat and develops that rich creamy flavor. So unexpected to find a southern dish done so well. All their other dishes are just as delicious as the ones we had. Sonny’s has a homey atmosphere where Sonny himself steps out of the kitchen and checks in with the customers. Service was quick and attentive. My coffee cup was refilled 3 times without me asking. Condiments were also offered without asking. Sonny’s is touch of a blast from the past with good simple breakfasts (and lunch) with great service...

I visited this place recently and was looking forward to a good experience. However, when we first walked in and greeted the host with a ‘hi’, I was a bit surprised that she didn’t respond, just ignored and simply walked away. It felt a little unwelcoming but another server greeted and served us very nicely. But unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing again. When the food arrived, the pancakes were burnt, the hash browns were also burnt, and the omelet—advertised as being made with four eggs—was paper-thin and clearly not with 4 eggs. The omelet’s ingredients were too salty with paper thin egg cover(?). Everyone seemed to be local grandpas — they greeted each other and chatted at their bar. A man at the bar, possibly the owner or the cook, was casually chatting with the customers as well. And when the man later came to our table and asked if the food was okay, he confidently said that the food was cooked that way because the customers wanted it well done, and that he said he knew how it was cooked before sending it out. At that point, we had nothing else to say. Well done/crispy is not BURNT!

Not often does simple food rise to the level of exceptional. Sonny Side Up manages this feat. Take that breakfast staple: the egg. An egg contains perfection. Whether that is improved on they path to your plate depends on the skill of the chef. You are in good hands with Sonny. If you have never experienced the joy of a perfectly cooked egg, you are in for a treat. This is a family restaurant in the best sense of the word. Sonny is the chef, his wife Diane and their wonderful daughter work the front, and both food and service are consistently exceptional. Sonny Side Up is a restaurant worth travelling to.

Great breakfast/lunch spot with hugh portions of food. I didn't expect to order 2 pancakes, and have them be soo big. I had to share them as I definitely couldn't finish them on my own. I actually didn't even finish them, and I shared them. The omelet i got had the option to have grits with it instead of home fries. The eggs Benedict was really good as well. This place is packed and had to wait a bit, but I can see why. It is worth the wait. It is not a large establishment, so seating is limited. We will try lunch options next time we are back.
