Had the whole flounder. Was overcooked and dry, would not order that ever again (would post a pic, but don't see the option to).The cole slaw is minced fine, kinda meh, served in a plastic, lidded to go cup, as was the malt vinegarI requested, I found it challenging to drizzle a small amount of vinegar over the fish from this cup, come on, even Capt'n D's will give you a whole bottle to use. Ketchup is always a non-issue for me at restaurants, until I had it here, their ketchup was not good! It tasted like low grade cheap dollar store quality, only used it on maybe half my fries, seemed to taste worse the more i used it. The hush puppies look like onion rings, when I picked one up there was a "heavy"feel to it, the interior is dense, not light and fluffy inside, again, just meh flavor. I prefer the round style hush puppies, these onion ring shaped ones don't seem to lend themselves to being able to be light and airy insde, 5/10 on those. I only ate 1 out of the 3. The tarter sauce is also low grade. The service was good, prices are fair, but anyone that thinks this is great seafood has never had great seafood. I know for good seafood you'll pay a lot more elsewhere, but really good seafood doesn't seem available in d-ville. I feel my review will not make a difference. I will probably give it another try sometime, but order something completely different. And people that comment that the seafood here is fresh, I hope they don't mean fresh as in not frozen, I'm sure...
Read moreDanville has quite a gem in this traditional 'southern', coastal-style seafood restaurant. The place was PACKED, yet we found a parking place easily, and we're seated in less than 10 minutes. Additionally, our food came very quickly. Our fried fish, (flounder, baby flounder, and whitefish) was lightly breaded, well-seasoned, and not at all greasy. The crab cakes were very light, and again, expertly fried. The deviled crab was flavorful, but a little too cloying (sticky/clumpy) after being fried, and my husband and I agreed that the hush puppies were a little rushed from the fryer; they could have used another minute. Slaw and hush puppies came with every entree, plus one additional side. We were all impressed with the variety of side dish options they offered: onion rings, sweet potato, fried or dirty rice, as examples. They also offer dishes liked beef tips, baked spaghetti, chicken alfredo, ribeye steak, and pork chops for folks who don't like fish. We were also impressed by the variety of cakes they had: carrot, red velvet, pineapple coconut, double chocolate, etc. We purchased a slice of carrot cake to go and it was very delicious! A couple at the table beside of us ordered the grilled salmon and highly recommended it for our next visit. I'm already looking forward to that...
Read moreToday was my first visit here with my mom. My father just passed away and used to always talk about how much he liked this place; he was accurate! From the literal moment we parked the car we were greeted with a kind hello from a nice young man doing curbside service to the second we walked into the door. The hostess greeted us immediately and asked if the seating was ok with us; since my mother is handicapped I received the hostess's kind gesture as being aware and accommodating. Our server PJ came to our table right away, asked what we'd like to drink and without even asking, brought my mom and I a little cup of sliced lemons for our tea and water! That again, is wonderfully paying attention to details. Our food order came out in a very timely fashion (even though my fish was fried and I asked for broiled); PJ apologized and corrected it quickly with such a pleasant response. From beginning to end, the lunch dining experience was so wonderful and the food plentiful and delicious!!. I must also add how clean and cute the inside was including the Bathrooms and the wonderful bakery casing they have upfront; it just added to the appeal. This will definitely be one of my new go to_s. Not only after my wonderful experience; but, in honor of my dad! Five stars to the...
