Tuscany Italian Grill — Restaurant in Danville

My 1st experience was not very well. The staff is great! The food.....not so much. My 1st time going there was Saturday evening 8/16. I ordered the stromboli, which came out looking like a Calzone. Nevermind that, it wasn't cooked well. My impression is that is was premade and then tossed into the oven to hear up and they didn't leave it in long enough. When I got to my truck 3 min later to eat it was like warm. I also ordered the fried mushrooms. DONT EVER ORDER THE FRIED MUSHROOMS. They use a breading to coat the mushrooms that is thicker than the mushroom itself. Again I think the mushrooms are precoated and refrigerated for cooking later. I decided the next day to give them another chance. I'd seen on the menu the cheesesteak and I wanted to try it. I should have gone to Burger King. The cheesesteak came out the bread was cold the meat cheese and vegetables were hot. My french fries which I really wanted, were like warm. I was kinda pissed. Oh and they forgot to give me the sweet tea that I paid for. My order was of course to go. Who doesn't warm the bun when making a cheese steak sandwich? Tuscany, that's who. The atmosphere is ok. I typically visit VIR a couple of times a year and we have tried this place a few times over the years. It was never remarkable, but it was a place to eat. Last year, we were there with a large group, but we did call 2 days ahead so it shouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately, I don't have much positive to say about the experience. Salads were basic with lettuce, tomato, croutons, onion, & cucumber. That & the mozzarella sticks were the only good part of everything we had there. We ordered brushetta & it was nothing like the pic. We even confirmed that we ordered what was pictured & yeah... We each ate one piece & tried to pawn it off on the rest of the group, but no one had anything nice to say. Our entrees were unremarkable at best. I ordered chicken caprese, which turned out to be tough chicken in orange water, greasy mozzarella (which I didn't know existed) & ton of black pepper & Italian seasoning. Not good at all. I pushed it around my plate to not embarrass myself. My friend had the sausage ziti & "meh" is the best he could offer. That comes from a guy that eats & likes everything! Very disappointing. P.S. Stopped here due to a couple other places being on a wait. There was very few people there in a Saturday evening. I ordered a slice of pizza which was the best part of the meal. It was huge and thin and so good! I had not ate all day so was starving! I knew I would be taking food back to my hotel! I ordered the spaghetti as my meal salad was great that came with it! The spaghetti was awful the sauce tasted like ragu it was terrible I took 3 bites. Served asked if I wanted it to go I said no thanks! She said you didn’t like it? I said no it’s ok no worries. I don’t complain and how can you fix the sauce it’s their sauce! Garlic bread barely had any garlic or butter on it but I did it one piece. Had a piece of cheesecake for dessert frozen solid! So I called it a night! Server asked if I would like a soda to go sure! No that never came took at least 15 minutes when she took my card and no they were not busy and had plenty of servers working!
