My comments are 100% fair.
They had ample opportunity to be kind and explain the current Happy Hour situation.
They may have removed all Happy Hour references on their website and ads, but they still prominently advertise "Happy Hour" in the window of the restaurant.
After we walked into the restaurant and asked about their Happy Hour, all the man said back to us was, "No. No, Happy Hour."
Simply saying, "No..." is not the same as explaining why there is a big sign in the window that reads:
"Happy Hour - Saturday & Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm", then explaining... Happy Hour has been suspended for Covid, blab, blab, blab.
After he said, "No", I pointed out the big sign in the window advertising "Happy Hour" and suggested they might think about taking it down because it "wasn't true".
Still, despite my exchange, the man did not offer up any further explanations except another surly and dismissive, "No. No happy Hour."
He seemed bothered that we had asked.
That was the full extent of our conversation.
Based on that encounter, what is a person to think about the restaurant's customer service?
We did not get invited to look at their menu, so we have no idea what dishes they are cooking. We assumed it was Japanese food.
Our first impression, immediately after walking in the door, was "Aodake Sushi And Hibachi" did not smell like a Japanese Restaurant, it reminded us of the Chinese restaurants on Wentworth Avenue.
We did not base our 1-Star review on the food, or the smells emitting from the restaurant.
Our 1-Star review was based solely on the demeanor and the way the man treated us after the big Happy Hour sign in their restaurant's window enticed us to go inside and check it out.
There was nothing the man did or say that was inviting.
He was surly and dismissive.
And, what was our "crime?"
We walked in and asked about their Happy Hour.
I'm just sharing an event that happened at Aodake Sushi and relating that to my personal experiences on Wentworth Avenue and living in Japan.
Based on our personal experience at Aodake Sushi, we believe the reviews that echoed similar negative customer service experiences are trustworthy, and believable.
Trust The Low Reviews
Judge for yourselves, but from our experiences, Aodake Sushi does not smell like a Japanese restaurant. It 100% smells like Chinese cooking inside.
They prominently advertise a Happy Hour, but the surly man at the desk, dismissively told us, "No happy hour."
Geeze. We just asked.
When you see so many negative reviews, that means something.
From our experience there, I would trust the negative reviews are reasonable...

Atmosphere: Restaurant smelled of grease. Appeared clean.
Food: Agedashi tofu appetizer: not bad. Not very good either. Deep fried.
Tempura entree: came with salad and miso soup. tasted mostly of grease. Piping hot though. Dipping sauce was very salty. It also lacked the characteristic rough texture of tempura as well as the clean taste. The intense grease flavor made it literally difficult to swallow towards the end, gave me a headache, and induced vomiting after my 10 minute commute. Salad: small & topped with thousand island flavored dressing. Salad appeared to be plain bagged lettuce salad mix with few carrot shreds. Miso soup: very bland.
Chicken Katsudon: Why wasn't there a pork option on the menu? Isn't that the usual? It was served on top of rice with an egg and onion mixture which tasted pretty much only of soy sauce. Also too salty.
Service: ok. Server checked on us several times but wasn't terribly helpful in describing size of dishes and rough composition comparisons to other dishes. Seemed to get annoyed when I asked about the dishes. My partner commented on her bad attitude as soon as we were sat, but I wrote that off. She was all smiles and sunshine when we were getting ready to pay the bill though, and to be fair I did reply that everything was fine each time she checked on us.
Value: mostly comparable to similar restaurants but a bit pricier. Quality did not justify the price, and I would've preferred to get better faux Japanese food elsewhere for less.
Perhaps try Chiba instead for a similar type of food(Also not amazing but better value, flavor,...
Read moreThis is the scariest place ever to eat at. The food was awful, awful, awful, the seaweed was like chewing rubber they told us we had to buy 2 drinks to get their Monday special 50 percent off, fine so we ordered drinks. Their was only one waitress in the place and they were busy she had a very negative attitude. When I could not eat their sushi because it was literally like chewing rubber the taste was like no other sushi I ever eaten and we have eaten at some of the best we go to Shintos all the time. I called the what I guess to be the owner /manager told him and showed him and he wanted to argue. He went in the back I waited for what I thought was a long while and finally started out the door. I had only eaten one and a half pieces He came running after me with some package of seaweed paper saying see, see we only use the best I have no idea what he was talking about I only knew it was awful. Then waitress came outside yelling you must, pay you must, pay you must pay for the drink the drinks you must pay.I said you never brought them the only thing we were ever serve was water. Their were people waiting to go in as they yelled and they turned and left .I can"t believe this place is still in business .I would never go back their or refer this place to anyone. And sorry I had to give any stars but you...
