This morning I was deciding whether or not to make cupcakes for a party tonight or to pick some up somewhere. I just decided to get into the car and drive hoping my revelation would hit me. As I drove I realized I was kidding myself and that I wouldn't be making anything today. So buying it was. I scrolled through the rolodex in my mind of the many places locally that sell cupcakes, but all were too expensive. I was looking for yummy and affordable.
Then I remembered hearing radio ads for Sunrise Bakery & decided that's where I'd go. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from the mall area and Rt. 6. Pulling in to the parking lot was a zoo, so I figured this place has to be great. There's a drive-up, outdoor seating and everything just looked clean.
Opening the doors I was greeted by children looking for donations. After scooting by, I looked around and found the pastry case I needed, the ones with the cupcakes! They had quite a few choices to choose from. A young lady helped me at first, because I had asked for pricing on them (she was nice enough to put them in the register to tell me all the prices. After I noticed the prices were clearly marked on their signs in front of the cupcakes. Epic fail on my part. But hey, I'm blonde.) The gourmet flavor cupcakes on top (there were 7 choices) were $2.50 + tax, on the bottom they had double chocolate, golden cupcake, and chocolate with vanilla, those were $1.25 (or may have been $1.50). I was pleased with the prices so I opted for a mix of gourmet and standard cupcakes. While waiting I noticed their pies were half price. Score! I also got a Boston Cream Pie for $5!
I was tempted to buy other treats and try their coffee but didn't on this trip since I was on a mission. But the long drive-up line and long lines inside made me think this place is quite delicious. Which on a side note, I'm not sure why there are 2 lines when you go in. There were about 7 people in the line to the left which had the donut shelves in back of it, but the line straight ahead by the cupcakes only had one customer in front of me. I checked to make sure I wasn't cutting but not sure why the two lines. I will have to come back again to try their coffee and breakfast sandwiches that everyone raves over!
The cupcakes and pie were a hit! Everyone was talking about them. I tried the sweet & salty cupcake and it didn't disappoint! Also the Boston Kreme pie was amazing and quite the crowd pleaser. Highly...
Read moreI hate leaving negative reviews and trying 3 to 4 times to visit as I feel everyone has a off day. Unfortunately this is not the case. I hope the owner reads this to help him especially with a Dunkin right next door.
The food is amazing. Coffee is extremely good. That's where it ends. You have to repeat your order several times as staff is focused everywhere else but you. You need to cross your fingers hoping you get your order right. It's like spinning the wheel. Than the wait time is ridiculous. First time I was waiting 10 min in drive thru. 2nd time almost 15 min. Today was 20 min When I got up to window I saw a girl starring at her phone and laughing . As time went by she was making food and I was like oh here it comes . Nope she was making food for herself and coffee. I was still waiting. When she finally decided to make my food it was incorrect (delicious but wrong order) my coffee which I love there was like 2lbs of sugar and so much ice after 2 sips it was gone.
It's a shame as the food is so good and I feel if they can fix their employees and waiting times they can destroy any local business with ease. I really hope they can change things around. I'm rooting for them but feel it will go on deaf ears
If you want amazing food this is the place but remember if you're in a hurry and use drive thru be prepared to be late to where you're going . Also if you want to press your luck on getting your order right just cross your fingers.
So much potential to be the best but...
Read moreI’ve tried visiting this place 2-3 times since reopening under new ownership. Each time was a disappointment & just such a negative experience.
1st time: no ham & cheese croissants. Asked for a red velvet cookie that was 85 cents or $1, received a red velvet cupcake which was over $2 more in price & was charged for it. I had to wait even longer to communicate my complaint to the staff to get a refund & it took even longer because they didn’t know how to operate the register. The employee did not speak English at all so I had to repeat myself several times & it becomes frustrating especially if they still get your order incorrect. Their large is so small (you have to order a Jumbo) & they only have one size of straws.
2nd time: it was like a circus in there. Still lacked some inventory & no croissants still, which baffles me because it’s a bakery & it was 8am!
3rd time: no croissants & no ham & cheese croissant sandwiches. I just left & will not be returning. This place really needs to be managed better otherwise I do not see it being successful whatsoever. It is such a disappointing experience each time because this establishment used to be delicious & the previous workers used to really know how to run & operate the place! Not worth going here considering the experience each time & with so many other amazing places...
