A coworker and I tried Hu Hots yesterday for the first time and we were both very pleased with the restaurant. The aspect of a “buffet stir-fry” restaurant was new to both of us and we didn’t fully understand it until after our first bowl. Thankfully it’s an all-you-can-eat meal so we were able to make better selections on our second trip.
The selection of meats were the standard fare: pork, beef, chicken, crab and fish, all frozen to keep it fresh while at the buffet. The noodles were a bit standard with three choices of Chinese, Pad and Thai noodles. After that there is a selection of veggies to choose from. Like the meats, the veggies cover all the basics for Asian cuisine including sprouts, beans, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms and more. Finally, the bowl is topped off with different sauces for flavoring. If you don’t want oil, don’t put it in your bowl. If you want all curry sauce, go for it. You control the flavor of your dish.
The bowl of ingredients is then taken to a circular hibachi and cooked for you in a matter of minutes. Because all the meats are sliced very thinly they all cook quickly and the veggies are at a crunchy “al dente” state that they should be for stir frying. Your meal is then plated and handed back to you to take to your table.
The wait staff was helpful though it was a little hard to hear her explain the restaurant. While the menu also explained the process it’s written in a “theme” and still didn’t make sense until going through the line.
Overall we enjoyed our meal and agreed that we’d have to return again. The price is comparable to any lunch AYCE restaurant and the food is fresh. I would prefer to see the meats cut a little smaller so it’s possible to get more into the bowl but otherwise we had...
Read moreBeen a long-time fan of HiHo Mongolian Grill, so was excited to try this place.
Total for dinner was $13.90 with tax. That did not include a drink or tip. Did come with white rice (seemingly unlimited) and soup. The hot and sour soup was not good.
Decor, ambiance are really nice. You can make multiple trips to the food bar, which is nice. The bowls are on the small side, so I'm guessing most people will go back at least one more time. You cannot take leftovers home, which makes sense for a place that offers multiple trips for one price.
I honestly prefer the approach of HiHo - three bowl sizes - one trip up. I actually didn't care for the small bowls and two trips up for a plate of food. I'd rather go through the line once and then sit and eat my food. Your food is cooked very quickly though, I'd say quicker than HiHo. Could be because there's less of it.
Drinks are expensive at $2.29 for a soda, but they do have the cool Coke machine that can mix a bazillion different concoctions. I did not purchase a soda however.
Servers and staff were very nice and visited the table frequently. Maybe a little too frequently. Everyone was pleasant to deal with.
Food was OK. I wasn't blown away. I much prefer the taste of HiHo. Likely the sauces, I'm guessing.
LOTS of items on the food bar to choose from, which is nice. Even some toppings like nuts and coconut to sprinkle on after your meal has been cooked. Variety and taste of ingredients was fresh and good, but the sauces were just OK. Maybe I need to try different ones.
A little pricey for me, esp with tip. There's also a tip jar by the cooks, too, so it can add up. Soup wasn't great, so I didn't even finish it. Overall, I wasn't wowed by the food and can't say I'll be back, esp...
Read moreMy husband and I visited here for the first time, and we weren't sure what to expect. Upon opening, we were promptly greeted and escorted to our booth. In my opinion, they sit a little low and lack support, so you kind of sink a little when you sit down. The waitress was so kind and helpful explaining the drinks they offered as well as how much oil or sauce to use with your stir fry when we explained we had never been there before and had no idea what we were doing. I personally found it helpful (since the bowls are small) to separate the proteins from the veggies and / or noodles into 2 bowls. The cook was also very kind and helpful when we came up to the grill area. We clearly must have looked confused as she explained again about the oils and sauces being needed so the food doesn't burn. She held conversation and still had the food done perfectly, doing well to keep other orders separate and prevent mixing. Speaking of food, they offer vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, and diabetic friendly options! Shrimp is not offered regularly but instead on Tuesday and Thursdays after 4pm otherwise they have crab, polluc, chicken, beef, pork, meatballs, and tofu for proteins regularly. ⚠️ If you have allergies to any of the items offered being a buffet style place, I would not recommend it. Cross contamination does happen! ⚠️ The price for 2 meals with drinks and a 25% tip was $45, without a tip was just shy of $34! Hard to beat those prices. I will definitely be...
