Before reading my review I would like to say that the last time I was here was pre covid.
Had their steak house burger. Had the option for a little pink or no pink. I chose a little pink, it was cooked through until not pink at all. There was supposed to be bacon jam on my burger yet all that was on it was hard bacon. I'm not talking crispy bacon that crunches in your mouth, I mean hard overcooked, black bacon. I recently made bacon jam at home for the first time and the one time I made it at home it tasted better and had way more flavor. There happened to be cheese on the burger too, was used to keep the small amount of bacon on the burger. The burger was extremely dry, along with almost no flavor. However, the bun was really good. The texture of the meat was actually superb. I was just able to notice it because half of my burger didn't have the hard as heck bacon on it. I just wish the burger had more going on, and for 30 bucks I expect a burger of higher quality. Maybe its my fault for ordering a burger at a steak house.
I watched my mom order a blue cheese salad and crab cakes. It had been a while since she has visited this restaurant as well but did say that the food was not how she remembered it. The salad was ice burg lettuce with a small amount of blue cheese dressing and bacon on it. Seemed very over priced for what was given to her. The crab cakes she ordered were no longer a meal and instead an appetizer. I was able to sample a small portion of one and something was off about the flavor profile of it. She wasn't the biggest fan of the change to the recipe either.
I was actually able to come to the place again to see if it was just what we ordered. I think the steak with peppercorn sauce I had was pretty good. The steak was slightly overcooked after ordering medium rare but the really good sauce made up for it. However I might add that at this price point of 40+ bucks for a steak, you may want to hone the cooks you have in the kitchen. Their skills need improvement. If I, a novice home cook, can rival or slightly surpass the food put out at a restaurant for 30% of the total cost, why would I ever go out to your restaurant?
The waitresses we had were amazing, the service was spectacular but the food was not as good as I would of liked for the...
Read moreOverall, our experience was good at Mo Brady’s but we left feeling disappointed with an interaction we had with one of the managers. My husband ordered a ribeye and we noticed right away that he was given a strip instead. We let our waitress know and she went right away to get the manager. When the manager came over, she said immediately (without even taking a look at the steak) that it was indeed a ribeye and explained that the “end cut” looks different than a typical ribeye. What she didn’t know, is that my husband works in the cattle industry and knows the ins and outs of cuts of meat. We briefly stated that he works in the beef industry and she wouldn’t have it. She argued instead. This was such poor management. The error, in my opinion, is that this manager assumed we were wrong. She knew exactly how she was going to respond before she even got to our table. My husband didn’t request a new steak or a discount, he simply wanted her to know. The way she responded prompted us to ask for a discount at the end, which was given by a different manager because the one who argued with us hid behind the bar and wouldn’t make eye contact with us as we went up to pay. If you’ve made it this far in the review, I assume you care about the management team at Mo Brady’s and I write this review only in hopes that a conversation can be had about assuming good intent when approaching tables and having an open mind. My husband knew what he was taking about. He could have shown the manager exactly why his steak was a strip and not a ribeye. She may have learned something. It’s ok to mess up but it’s not ok to lie your way out of it. The Iowa farmers who supply you,...
Read moreI HATE giving bad reviews!! So, I'm going to start with a compliment then add in the review and end with a compliment. . On Google they have over 580 reviews with an average rating of 4.7 ⭐ so I had to try this place. I checked their hours for Saturday and called right when they opened and asked if they encourage reservations. They said they did so I put my name down for 7 P.M. When we arrived at 6:50 they told us it would be a few more minutes. Fast forward to 7:25 where we finally got seated. #notagoodstart . . Restaurant seating was at half capacity however we still had to wait to be served. (We did not start eating till 8:05 when our reservation was for 7). My ribeye steak that is posted cost me $39 which is the same size steak that you would buy at Aldi for $13 and did not taste good nor was not cooked how I had asked. My wife ordered jumbo shrimp and she said that was good but her sweet potato fries were not crispy and they were crunchy on the inside. We also ordered a crab cake appetizer which were not seared or crispy and flavor was very blah.
The atmosphere inside is low lighting and the interior's a little outdated. My wife said the rest rooms were clean and parking was convenient. . Now for the compliment, the owner Tim stop by our table many times to ask how things were going and I didn't want to be rude so I thanked him for his hospitality. It's always great to have the manager or the owner stop by the table to talk to people and I just wish the food matched his customer service. For the price I expected a steakhouse but I would compare the quality of the food and experience similar to a country diner.
