Staff was friendly, typical diner staff, though I'd say they were friendlier than one expects in such establishments which why 5 stars. The one table busser was exceptionally fast I'd expect her speed at a higher end restaraunt. Server also prepped water and had refills ready immediately. This was truly 5 star service.
Food was good. I don't mean greasy-spoon- good, rather mid quality for a good sit down restaraunt, very good quality for a diner. The specialty fries weren't that great, good for fries mediocre for a specialty. Whoever fried their bacon was an expert. I would give the bacon 5 stars on its own. Burger was a bit more typical I think bun was toasted. Burger came with fried onions without a special request...love that. Combination of all of that solid 4 star food, If I was to compare this to other diners, 5 star food.
Decor- ambience- physical building. I would love to give this place a 5 star but they really missed their chance. Decor is great, 5 star from me on decor. Variety of vintage looking items including a big Marilyn Monroe over the checkout. The issue is the drop ceiling with grease and water marks. They needed to replace a couple panels and based on age marks needed to do that a few months ago. I get it drop ceiling panels are expensive but brown water spots over diners heads is not compelling and should be fixed immediately. They also somewhat ruined the ambiance with multiple televisions. I get that people might need a TV to relax but no one but me was bothering to watch fox news. They completely missed their chance to up the 50s diner feel by playing vintage television, videos, news reels and movies or even faux vintage. I bet if they tried they could add some flare to the televisions to give it a 50s diners feel.
A few things to add: their menus and website are what drew me here, I was going to go to a fast food place but their website and menu look drew me in. You pay less if you have cash. Waitress did look at me like I was crazy when I ordered hot tea so don't expect the best hot tea. Do expect quick friendly service. Make sure to tip at least two tables left while I was sitting there and neither tipped. Service is too...

That was my review from 2 years ago. Now, let's get an update. My wife and I went into the restaurant today to get a bowl of ice cream. I didn't realize at the time, but Flag City closes at 4:00 and the time we walked into the door was 3:25. My wife and I sat down to order, still unaware of the closing time, and with no hesitation, a waitress walked over, and in her snottiest tone, informed my wife and I that we weren't allowed to place any orders; since, the diner closes at 4:00. I sat there somewhat dumbfounded by this young lady's tone, when over walked another waitress and informed us we would be allowed to place our order if we liked. I very politely told her that, "no, we've already been told we couldn't order and we'll leave." I also mentioned that Flag City was considered my favorite restaurant in Davison to eat, but that was no longer the case. Sorry to see this little restaurant has chosen to treat a regular customer in such a shoddy fashion, but there are plenty of other restaurants in Davsion, we'll simply find another.
Okay, a little update. Wife decided it was time for us to go back to Flag City, even after the horrible service we had last time. Stopped in for dinner and placed our order. Everything was fine. About 30 minutes after we sat down, the waitress came by the table and informed me my order couldn't be placed because they were out of the item. I advised her we'd already been there for a half an hour, and why hadn't she come by sooner to let me know the status? Apparently, she'd just been told by the kitchen. I told her to bring me the bill for the softdrinks we'd ordered, we were out of there. As much as this pains me, Flag City is no longer open for my wife's and my business. I've been a regular since they opened, all through the Covid curbside only business until now. It's gone from my absolute favorite (next to Lucky's) to a place I'll never again enter. If anyone from Flag City reads this, you should either change your habits or close your...
Read moreUsual diner food, not the best quality but cooked/priced right and coffee hot and prompt. Service was friendly. Keep an eye on your credit card slips, I had an extra amount added on to my card (only happened 1 out of 3 visits), and it was corrected down the road, but when I went in to get it straightened out the manager played it down, insulted my intelligence (30+years in the restaurant industry/restaurant management myself!-oops!), and blamed the extra charge on MY BANK (like I'm unaware of my own banking fees?), but I'm pretty sure if I didn't get the police involved she would have just taken my money so I wanted to make sure people are watching for added "tips" and charges. It was only an extra $3.77! But it"s the point. It is credit card fraud to add whatever you want to people's slips. Bottom line. We tipped our server $7 cash. Then someone added $3.77 on the debit card I paid with, when they "adjusted" their slips at the end of the shift. All of the chaos of the restaurant is something I know all too well, but this was a blatent attempt to fraudulently steal from the customer, and people need to stop letting these people get away with it! It's only a few bucks, but still considered fraud by the police. So if this happens to you, please calmly take your receipt in and speak directly to management. If they're unwilling to immediately fix it, they're the one doing it, and you need to file a police report. Even if it's 3$! I would have FIRED IMMEDIATELY any of the staff involved for this. Unacceptable. Pay...
