Ben & Jerry’s — Restaurant in Dayton

In the past, I've had excellent experiences with this shop ordering ice cream cakes. This particular experience was not as smooth. I ordered a small ice cream cake online a week and a half prior to needing it, I did not get an email or confirmation or get charged so the next day I called and was told it was not in the system and it needed to be approved by the owner, to call back 24 hours. I did so, and it still was not in the system, that person said that they would take down my phone number and give it to the owner who would personally call me as soon as he got in and either confirm my order, or place a new one. I waited three days and heard nothing, so I went down to the shop and asked if he got the message. No one knew, and since it had been that long, I just went ahead and placed the cake order in the shop and paid for it. I wasn't offered a receipt, thankfully though I had purchased from them before and got one in my email that I used before from square.

I went in on the date I was supposed to pick it up, the cake was ready but the clerk asked for me to pay for it, saying that it wasn't marked as paid. Thankfully, as I mentioned, I had an email that showed I paid otherwise I wouldn't have walked out with that cake and I would have been disputing that charge.

The cake was not nearly as cute as the one made the previous year, I suppose that's my fault, it was the small version and there was less room to write. The cake itself was delicious though, so thank you, for that. And my kid was happy for that. I'm being incredibly generous on my scoring with this experience, because the clerk who took my order in store was not at fault, she was lovely. But I'm frustrated that the owner decided I was not worth calling back to retain...

As per our tradition, when I go out with my mom each week, we like to find a new restaurant and a new place to get dessert. For dessert this week, we stopped in to Ben and Jerry's (I'd never known that they had an actual storefront in Ohio before today!), and I'm glad we did.

My mom got a two scoop ice cream cone, one of Chocolate Brownie (Chocolate Ice Cream with Fudge Brownies), and the other of the new flavor Ultraviolet (Vanilla Ice Cream with Marshmallow Swirls, Gluten-Free Chocolate Cookies & Fudge Flakes). And I got a Caramel Macchiato shake (Coffee Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz and Triple Caramel Chunk).

Mom said that while the Ultraviolet was good, the Chocolate Brownie was the truly great flavor, and the Ultraviolet was a bit bland next the richness of it.

My shake was absolutely delicious, with the coffee and espresso bean brownie bits (which were a particularly unexpected treat to enjoy) giving a kick that I loved, and loved even more because the most bitter edges of it were smoothed out (so to speak) by the chunks and swirls of caramel.

I had submitted a catering request for an event 2 months ahead and had not heard anything back from May—July regarding my interest / request for catering, even though I attempted to contact the location multiple times. Every time I contacted the business they mentioned the owner handles catering requests, took my information down and said he would call back and it has not happened. I even expressed that I genuinely needed to know the quote for catering because I would like to plan accordingly for my event and yet no one responded or contacted me. It’s very disappointing and frustrating to try to give my money to a business I am fond of, for them to fall short on communication and lack of response to a customer. I will not be recommending this location for catering, as they cannot communicate at all about their catering quotes...
