Carmichael's Pub — Restaurant in Dayton

I had my first experience at Carmichael's on Friday, July 23, 2021 at around 5:45 P.M. It will also likely be my last. I cannot recommend this establishment.

First, there is no men's restroom. Their are however two restrooms marked women. Staff directed me to use the restroom behind the bar. Its a small room with a toilet and no sink and no trash can and isn't even marked as a restroom.

But the real problem came when we ordered. We had a group of eight. We were the first to order food this evening. There were no other food orders in the kitchen at the time we ordered. Despite this, by 7:15 P.M., well over an hour after we ordered, three of our group of 8 had still not received any food. We had picked this place because it looked to have quick food and wasn't crowded, and we thought getting there at 5:45 would give us plenty of time to eat to make our 8:00 P.M. show at Wiley's Comedy Club (which I do recommend).

However, when I finally approached the server and asked why, despite our orders being the first in, we still had 3 people who had not received food, she told me that because they have a small kitchen they rotate other table's orders in when they have a large table. So people who came in after we did were getting their orders before us because they had come in a smaller group. Our larger table spending more money didn't appear to matter to them, and it definitely was not first come first served. One top of that one employee at the bar turned around and snapped at me that it wasn't their fault that other orders were also coming in from the bar. So apparently individuals sitting at the bar take priority over those sitting at tables.

Finally, at 7:25 when some in our group were still waiting for food I asked for our check because we had to leave to make our show. Despite this situation I had to go up and complain twice more to get the check. I got more excuses about it being busy and it not being their fault. By the time we got the check it was very clear that the staff at this bar cares more about their inconveniences than the customer's. It is also clear that the owner of this facility is not giving his/her employees the tools and training they need to do their jobs well.

I strongly recommend avoiding Carmichael's Pub for food because the service is horrible. It was so slow that I wouldn't go back even if the food turned out to be 5-Star. Ultimately, I can't comment on the food quality because I didn't have time to eat. So there’s a group on Facebook called the Dayton foodies group… I see Carmichael’s pub referenced all the time for one of the best burgers and wings In Dayton. I finally got the opportunity to try it today.

Let me start off by saying nothing was bad. My wife ordered the cowboy burger with hand, cut fries. I had 10 of the hot garlic wings.

Like I said, the burger wasn’t bad but for people to rave about it like it’s one of the best in Dayton I thought was a huge oversell… The hand cut fries I did enjoy sometimes those can be tough at almost any restaurant where occasionally you’ll get soggy ones, but these overall we’re fairly crispy. I can tell the wings were made with fresh chicken, which was a huge plus for me. I consider myself a wing connoisseur. I really enjoyed the hot garlic sauce. I thought it was top-tier. I wouldn’t say they’re the best wings in Dayton, but they are definitely far better than average bar wings!

Ultimately, what was disappointing was the service I asked the waitress for water several times, We also waited over an hour and a half for our food, There was little to no communication about the wait.

At the end of the day, I think my expectation was just too high in the price that I paid reflected what my expectations were compared to what I actually received.

So…..let’s do the good first…..the food was absolutely delicious!! I got a burger fries and chips and it was by far the best burger I have had in Dayton! The waitress was excellent and made small talk …it was nice…now for the bad- we went for lunch and there was a little girl running around and being obnoxious was too much to handle..if the parents want to drink at 11 -12 o’clock then get a babysitter and don’t have the waitress entertain your kid!! It was awful…and then there’s the seating….we only saw two places to sit …I’m not sure how it is in the event but we were the only people eating there ….who ever cooks the food-A+ my friend -well done. But who ever runs the places get it in check -if you make it to where it’s actually a restaurant and bar - people will come!
