After multiple recommendations we decided to check out this spot during our visit to Dayton. It definitely lived up to the hype. The store is quaint and easy to get to. When you walk in, there is a pleasant smell of chocolate that instantly brings a smile to your face. From white chocolate, milk chocolate to dark chocolate, there is literally something for every chocolate lover.
This faith based, family owned business has all of standard items that you would find from chocolatier shop. What makes them so unique is their additional items! They have a whole section of remarkable beach themed chocolates including white chocolate sand dollars and chocolate seashells. They have some novelty items that are unique to Angelo and Phelps. Our favorites were the chocolate covered bacon and chocolate covered potato chips!
Don't let the size of the store front fool you. It's actually quite large. In fact, there is a chocolate factory in the back. Due to the pandemic, there are currently no guided tours available only self led tours. So, make sure you go down the hallway at the left side of the store. That takes you back to chocolate factory area where you can see all kinds of chocolate treats being made and assembled. It's very cool to watch. I was intrigued by the process involved while touring the chocolate making mechanism. In addition, the wall is lined with antique photos of the area with articles about Daytona's history.
All of this is free to the public. The only cost is for whatever delectable chocolate treats you desire to purchase. If you're not sure what to buy, they will let you sample a variety of items. While I'm sure you'd enjoy anything you try,
I'd highly recommend you get the dark chocolate covered bacon and the milk chocolate ruffle...
Read moreWe called this wonderful place to enquire about doing business together. And there was one lady by the name of Kelly who was sweet as pie. We inquired about working together from our shop to theirs. She said the manager will return our call. We waited. I was calling on behalf of the manager of our store. And we called twice. No response. Third time we tried. Got a different person who was so degrading and nasty speaking on behalf of the manager of Angel and Phelps who apparently had no interest to do business with us. That is 1000% ok. But at least have the decency to communicate with us. The way we were spoken down to and that too communicating with a 57 year old man doesn’t make you superior it makes you look bad. This person was so nasty. Saying we don’t need to give you a call back. The manager isn’t interested. The manager doesn’t even need to return your call. Umm ok so then how do we know? We are calling and being told someone will return our call? Kindly do your business elsewhere because if this is how they act with other shops imagine how they’ll act with you. It’s too much entitlement and too much speaking down to others that of what did absolutely nothing to you! Shame! We don’t need the collaboration, we wanted to because we value the chocolate, and it’s fine you said no but that’s not how you treat another person! That’s not how you talk to a 57 year old man! And that’s not the language you use when dealing with a fellow human being! Learn to train the staff or fire her and the manager who doesn’t even have the decency and has the employee be the mouth piece for them because they have no decency to...
Read moreAs you enter from the rear entrance, the smell of chocolate permeates the air. You walk down the hallway past windows and wave to the employees behind them as they work their "magic" behind the scenes. You can see trays of "turtles" before being covered in chocolate, different assortments of chocolate sets and the various equipment being used to create them. The gift shop is tantalizing, the cases full of chocolates and the friendly folk behind them offering free samples. My family has been going there for decades and the quality of the product is only matched by that of the people that work there who care about the customer as much as they do about their product. We visited in person today but ordered a gift set online a few days ago for our daughter in grad school a 33 hour car ride away. She was so excited to receive the gift from Angell & Phelps that brought with it with memories of home. They are a blessing and I am sure would greatly appreciate the blessing of your purchase in person or online during this extremely difficult time for such small businesses that hand craft their products. You can support local even if you don't live here. Have a...
