We wanted to treat my mother-in-law to dinner here for her birthday, so my husband made reservations. I had been many years ago and always had a pleasant experience, but my husband has never been and was looking forward to dining here given the reputation. It's a beautiful restaurant and most seats have a great view. The hostess was friendly and politie and greeted us as we entered, and we were seated within a few minutes after arriving. The location of the table wasn't ideal - I'm pretty sure, after a quick glance around the room, we were seated in the worst table in the building. It was a round table, right in front of the salad bar and bathrooms. It was a busy corner of the restaurant and again, was overlooking the bathroom and salad bar.
Our server was friendly but not super attentive. I ordered the black linguini di mare and it was completely undercooked. Every single bite I took was crunchy. I hate complaining at restaurants, but it was inedible so I shared this with the server. I showed him how I could take one piece of pasta and it would be cooked on one side and I could literally break it in half on the other. He assured me "it is supposed to be black, it's the squid ink", which I obviously knew because I read the menu but also showed me he wasn't listening to my concern if he thought that's what I was complaining about. I politely repeated myself, and he went back to the kitchen and the chef assured him it was supposed to be that way because they put a garnish of fried pasta on top. I again showed him that the pasta was not cooked all the way but he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I tried to eat around it but literally the majority of the pasta was not cooked. He came back to check in and saw that I hadn't eaten anything and asked if I wanted a box. I politely told him no because this isn't cooked all the way, and he grabbed the plate to take it away. There were no apologies and no offer to order something else or have a manager come to the table. We were still charged for the dish. I didn't want to make an even bigger deal of it (I had already brought it to his attention several times) so we just dealt with it and paid the bill. I was not expecting a free meal - I just wanted my meal cooked appropriately or my concerns heard and validated.
We also ordered the lava cake which was disappointing as well, especially having to wait 30 minutes for it. We knew we had to wait so we expected something phenomenal (it used to be, years ago. Perhaps the recipe changed?) The cocktails were okay. I enjoyed my espresso martini, but my husband did not care for his drink (pomegranate mojito) . I also enjoyed the salad bar - lots of great options! I just wish our table wasn't directly in front of it.
This is considered an upscale restaurant in the area, yet the service and quality were lacking. Given our experience, and what I've read from some recent reviews, next time we're in town looking for a nice meal, we will likely...
Read moreWent to dinner with a group of 8 to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. Service was slow including waiting a long time for 1st round of drinks. Asked for extra bread 3 times and never received it. It took an hour to get appetizers. The appetizers were good. After another long wait the soup eventually was served but was cold. Waited again a very long time for 2nd round of drinks. When we asked the waitress for our drinks again she said she thought someone else brought them to us. After 2 hours our meals were finally served. Everything was cold including the salmon, steaks and vegetables. Someone ordered prime rib and they brought out a steak, one steak was ordered medium but was well done and the chicken was burnt and looked like it came from an anorexic chicken. The pasta and shrimp was dried out and hard, the mashed potatoes were cold and tasted like they were sitting out for a long time and the asparagus was cold and mushy. I immediately got up to complain and asked for the manager. No one came to the table. Both my husband and I went to the kitchen to ask for a manager and they were huddled in there apparently discussing what to do. My husband told the manager she should have immediately come to the table to address the complaints and that she needs to do her job. Also, it’s worth mentioning that they sat us in an area near the stairwell which was an odd place and the restaurant was not busy. There was plenty of seating elsewhere. One of our guest’s seat was close to a pole not providing any room for restaurant staff to get through but instead of walking around they continued to squeeze by him. At one point a staff member had a tray of empty wine glasses and squeezed by him holding the tray of glasses over his head! That is a huge safety hazard! It was the worst experience we’ve ever had. After having a discussion about all the issues with the manager, she said she would comp our bill but my husband’s birthday was ruined and we left at 9:00 still hungry as we didn’t eat the cold meals. We gave the waitress a cash tip as she was pleasant and we don’t know why the service was so bad. Hopefully the owner will inquire with us so we can discuss these issues and a plan of action for corrective action can be put in place to make it a better experience for their customers. Many of the poor reviews have...
Read moreOn 2/25/24 we chose to celebrate our 23rd Anniversary at the Daytona CH and as a Landry member, this wasn't our first time here. We have been celebrating our anniversary dinner here for over 15 years, and tonight's experience was very subpar and very disappointing as we look forward to this EVERY year.
After being seated for a while, probably about 10 mins, our waiter finally came to take our drink orders. Husband ordered his Jack and coke, and I tried the (new to me) caged tiki- they were good. We also ordered our usual bowl of clam chowder and crab cakes to start, and went ahead and put in our order for the main course as we already knew what we wanted- we both got the filet, one with the mashed potatoes with a side of mushrooms and my husband got his with the furikake rice.
*this is when they usually suggest the Lava cake as it takes time to prepare and bake...but it was not mentioned....
When our main dishes came, we had no steak knives to cut into our steak to see if they were cooked to our liking. He said he would be right back with some knives...we waited, and waited and waited... meanwhile our steaks were getting cold and sides were getting cold and drying out. We sat there patiently as we observed him serving plates of food to two other tables nearby. We finally stopped another waiter and told him we have been waiting for our knives to cut into our steaks, he promptly brought them over. Which adds to my my frustration as to why our waiter couldn't have done the same thing when he said he would bring them right over?!
Our waiter finally came back over to us, per our request to inform him that our food has cooled down because he neglected to provide proper utensils to eat with. His excuse was he was very busy, which I understand, but all we needed were knives to cut into our meat with- which his co worker provided for us within seconds. He did offer to remake our food, but I declined as we already waited long enough. After our conversation his attitude and demeanor towards us changed drastically making it very awkward. He didn't come back to check on us until he brought our bill.
After paying, we left feeling off and disappointed. When we made the decision to have our dinner here we expected quality- in food and service and when those expectations are not met, it's...
