I had to try this place because there were several reviews online that raved about this place and I must admit it's very good. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is THE best burger place in Detroit but it's darn good for sure!
WHAT DID I GET?: I ordered the Taystee's Classic, Ranch Fries, and the Blazin' BBQ wings. The Classic is a quarter pound burger topped with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and a thousand island type sauce. It's reminiscent of the "Animal" from In and Out Burger out in California. Except it's a proper quarter pound size and it's served on a Brioche bun instead of a plain hamburger bun. If you're in from Cali and you're missing the In and Out I suggest you give this a try. One word pops into my mind when I ate this burger. JUICY. It was nice and juicy (but not sloppy) and it made the burger that much more enjoyable. The ranch fries were good too. They had the ranch taste with a hint of garlic. Reminded me of the Wedges from Buffalo Wild Wings. And speaking of wings, I couldn't resist ordering the hot wings! Of course I went for the hottest they could serve. Now I normally prefer my wings naked and spun in sauce. These wings are breaded and spun, but I have to admit that I don't mind quite so much. The thing I like about them most is that they're tender and they fall off the bone. Maybe not your thing, but I am always game for wings. The sauce I could identify as Franks Hot + Sweet BBQ + a hint of some Habanero sauce to heat it up. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a bottle of BWs Blazin' Sauce back there. Hey I ain't judgin...
So my overall impression is that this is a great burger place. The meat is cooked fresh and the toppings are kept cold on the sandwich station. The lettuce looked crisp and the tomatoes looked new. No complaints at all.
This particular Taystee's was attached to a BP Gas station which made it a convenient stop for me. There was also a sign that said they had a sit-down location in Dearborn Heights. I think though this could be a hot spot in the future because across the street is a drive-in movie theater.
So in summary this is a great burger restaurant and definitely worth the trip. I will probably stop by again sometime and get my spice fix with that Volcano Burger.
Until next...
Read moreI was going to give a 1 star review, but I decided not to; I thought Haram. I went in with a friend, we ordered our meals, and it was wrong from the beginning. I asked for a chicken burger, gluten free bread, no cheese and Cole slaw on the side. My friend ordered chicken wings, and curly fries. They gave me his curly fries with my burger and no coleslaw. When asked to switch the burger onto a different plate, and add coleslaw on the side, we were looked at funny; as if the employees were flabbergasted at the thought that they may have got the order wrong. They separated the orders, and put the Cole slaw on my burger; instead of the side like I asked. I took the cole slaw off, took a small bite, and realized there is cheese on the burger; I'm lactose intolerant. I took it to the cashier, he was very nice and said they will remake the order. While I waited, I asked the line cook to make sure it's a gluten free bun, I also have a wheat allergy; his reply was very rude in tone, and seemed as though he was displeased. When my order was finally finished, it was handed to me by a different gentleman, to which I said to him in Arabic الله يسلم يديك. May allah bless, or bring peace, to your hands. He said sorry, which I respect him for doing instead of being rude. All in all, the food was very good; just some miscommunication. I hope they realize, that they shouldn't be rude to customers; or employ someone who looks displeased with his job and has to be rude to customers when he screws their order up. The cashier was very cordial, and respectful, so was the guy who officially showed me there is no cheese or coleslaw on the burger before handing it me with an apology....
Read moreDo not be fooled by the fact that this establishment is housed within a BP gas station. My meal at Tastee burger was nothing short of what they claim to sell, Tastee burgers. My friend was driving me to DTW airport on the day of a blizzard to catch my flight. We left early so we had time to stop for gas and get a nice lunch. Surprisingly, the dudes at Tastee burger were pumping out burgers as if the weather outside was warm and sunny. They were super welcoming and full of energy. The menu was very simple to navigate although I found it odd that they didn’t have prices listed. By recommendation of my friend, I got the knockwurst burger which had French fries, cheese, an egg, 3 types of halal meats, beef bacon, hot dog, and a burger patty a top a massive heap of Cole slaw and sandwiches between a beautifully golden brioche bun. We also got the the buffalo chicken sandwich for share and my oh my! Let’s just say I am very much looking forward to my next visit so I can have a whole one to myself 😇😇. In the moment, the only way to have described it was a chik-fil-a sandwich that went around the world and back. Finally, the meal was all tied together with their west coast fries, French fries topped with nacho cheese and grilled onions. The potatoes were good but I would have preferred to have had a little less cheese and grilled onions. The ratio felt off where it felt like I was eating more topping than fries. I am certainly looking forward to my next visit where I will stick to just some seasoned fries. There is not a whole lot not to like this place so if you’re looking for some yummy greasy food, give this place a try! And fuel up your car and stomach while...
