Sami's Place — Restaurant in Decatur

1st it felt like I had just walked into a sauna instead of a restaurant. My family with my almost 2yr old grandbaby was seated right beside a very loud customer who had enjoyed too many tequilas who decided that they needed to be involved in our 1st experience there constantly. The chips and various dips were good but had 2 different waitresses in the 1st 5mins there and neither could remember our drink orders or realize that a 2yr would need a to go cup with a lid and straw instead of a big open glass. They didn't have the 1st item my husband had ordered so changed it to another. His Carne Asada steak was good but his rice like all the rest of ours wasn't good. It was small pebble like rice without much taste or texture. I don't believe it was the normal long grain rice that one usually receives at a Mexican restaurant. My daughter's pineapple chicken was ok she said but my grandbaby's cheese quesadilla and fries were not good at all. How do you mess up a kids meal that is that simple. My burrito meal wasn't good either. Besides the bad rice the beans were not that good either and the red sauce that was supposed to be over my burrito was not normal red sauce and actually soaked everything on plate not just drizzled over the burrito. As others have said waitresses are not very prompt nor care much about service. Plus heat of place in already hot weather made it impossible to enjoy our family meal together. So some middle aged white women decided to open a Mexican restaurant and call it sami's place. Apparently by the reviews there are people that think it's the greatest (these people need to get out more). This is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been in. I sat down looked at the menu thought to myself wow I have been around the country around the world and eaten at many many Mexican restaurants what the firetruck is this. I ordered the special of the night as instructed to do so by the waitress. I then began to look around and for the record I am not latino 0%, but I did feel that the decor was downright degrading. Still waiting I munched on the chips and salsa. And thought about just leaving but remembered i had ordered so i flagged down a waiter and asked if i could change my order to go. Wait some more, still waiting, finally the food comes I pay as quick as I could. Leave begin to eat my food it was exactly what you would expect from the nice ladies previously mentioned. We have eaten at this restaurant for several years, however the service lately has been terrible. Yesterday we decided to do pickup because our last two dining inside took almost an hour to get our food. To be exact, last Sunday we waited almost an hour to eat. The first 15 minutes we never anyone to come to our table. I went and ask for our waitress. So last night we arrived at 4:50 pm and got into line at the register to order. We placed 2 separate orders totaling over 40 dollars. I went back to wait in my car and my son waited for our food inside. At 5:30 I go in to check to see what's wrong. Still no food. At 5:45 - still no food, at 5:50 I get one order but not the second. My son ask for his money back and at 5:55 order complete. We arrive home with 40 dollars of wrong food.
