From the outside, The Porterhouse Steakhouse might not look like much. The exterior is unremarkable, and the entrance isn't immediately obvious from the parking lot. Once inside, the place reveals its recent updates. The interior is clean and modern, which is a nice change from the initial impression.
To kick off my meal, I was served some bread that was truly delicious š, a small comfort amidst an otherwise disappointing experience. However, the cinnamon butter fell flat; it didnāt live up to the warm, comforting taste that I was hoping for š§.
I opted for a 12oz ribeye, but it was a letdown š„©. The steak, though large, was very thin and tasted like it had been freezer burnt. There was barely any seasoning, and while the skillet was warm, it seemed the steak had been swimming in juice, making it difficult to cut without splattering all over my dress shirt. I asked for a medium-rare steak, but it was overcooked to well-done. The overall experience was far from what you'd expect from a place that prides itself on steak.
My twice baked potato also missed the mark š„. It had been microwaved, and while the cheese on top was melted, it was still cold. This left the dish feeling lackluster and far from the hearty, comforting side dish it should have been.
The service matched the meal in terms of mediocrity š°ļø. The staff seemed less than thrilled to have a late lunch customer, which made the experience feel unwelcoming. Though not outright rude, their demeanor suggested they were ready for the lunch shift to end.
While this lunch experience was underwhelming, I see potential in The Porterhouse Steakhouse š. With some refinement and attention to detail, they could improve. Growing pains are understandable for any establishment. I plan to give them another chance in the coming months and will update my review if there's noticeable improvement.
Despite the hiccups, there's hope for The Porterhouse Steakhouse. Here's to hoping they can work through these issues and provide a better dining experience in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSome of the reviews show the food to be pretty decent, but we didn't agree with that opinion. We arrived, and we were both set on having steaks, which is why we chose a steakhouse in the first place. My husband and I, both ordered ribeye steaks; medium. He ordered a double baked potato as a side and an a side salad. I ordered a sweet potato and the asparagus, as my sides. It didn't take long for our orders to come out, but I found my fresh asparagus had been boiled, not roasted. Which caused it to be mushy and stringly. Let me say they were both large cuts of meat we are not diminishing the size but the flavor was bland and they weren't properly cooked which was noticeable especially on mine which had a considerable amount of fat and it was the white fat it had not been cooked or rendered down which is the technical term for cooking it. If you live anywhere close to Decatur; for the most tender, flavorful and best cooked steak; take the short drive Clinton IL, and have that meal at Ted's Restaurant. While on vacation my husband and I stumbled on that place two years ago and the only reason we tried Porterhouse Steakhouse, was because Ted's is temporarily closed while my remodeling. It's definitely worth calling to see when they will reopen and to return to them ASAP, because NOBODY does it better! None of the larger steakhouses in the Bloomington-Normal area, I've been to Jim's and to Alexander's and they can't hold a flame to what's going on at Ted's! Price wise, Ted's is very affordable and the quality will definitely have you coming back time and time again! Birthday, holidays, vacation time, anniversary time, you name it. Tell them, Paul's wife sent you!šÆ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām not one to EVER complain about service nor really the food. But I have to make a review about this.
I got the filet 8oz (pictured) twice baked potato and a side salad with ranch.
My boyfriend got the āTomahawkā (pictured) twice baked potato and broccoli.
The bread, is phenomenal. How do you mess up bread. Spinach artichoke dip was really good, cold on the inside. It was very clear they just microwaved it. The broccoli was not seasoned at all and cold. The twice baked potatoes just looked so sad. They were hard and not ātwice bakedā at all. Letās start with my filet, I ordered it medium rare⦠it comes out on the āheatedā plate. It is just swimming in nothing but grease. Unseasoned. A steak does not have that much come out of it when resting. It was so unseasoned and basically rare I took one bite and then made my boyfriend try another so I could show him how bad it was. His tomahawk was basically a t-bone with a cut bone to look like a tomahawk. Cold, overcooked and not seasoned. When we were greeted to ask how our meals were we expressed we were very upset and not very happy and that the food was very cold and bland.. (We expected around a $150 check we knew coming here itās not cheap) She just said okay let me see what I can do. Came back 15 minutes after us just sitting there. She came back and said she took the appetizer off and I said thatās really the only thing I want to pay for because thatās the only thing that was good. She said back to me āwell you ate most of your steak, soā
That sums up our meal. Stood up paid the 80$ they wanted us to pay and left.
Terrible, waste of your time, cheap...
