Super super healthy, can definitely soak up the local veggies and FEEL the nutrients in this whole-food based vegan / vegetarian restaurant! They have a great happy hour special (in February it’s a bowl and 2 beers for $20). They opened about a year ago and i think they have a LOT of potential for sprucing up the decor! Some local art, some textiles or funky vintage finds would go a long way to improve ambiance!

I’ve never been disappointed by a meal at Blazing Star and they’re always trying new things so it’s a delightful surprise every time. Their brunch is unparalleled- get ready for the best quiche of your life. I never regret the money I spend there because I know they’re contributing to the Decorah community and food systems in a meaningful way 💗✨

Blazing Star offers fresh, delicious, local menu items. If you need, or just desire, gluten free and/or vegan options, this is the place for you. It's in the higher price point, but you won't be disappointed, as the bowls are both filling and delicious. They also have a delicious selection of salads.

Spring 2023 Update: After having the opportunity to return and try the outstanding peanut tamari bowl with mushrooms added, I am impressed enough to increase my lone 4-star rating to 5. The food is delicious, balanced, local, fresh, healthy, and creative. Diners: partake, enjoy, and keep this unique business thriving. My only criticism is levied at the service; while mostly a self-serve style of restaurant (orders are to be taken at the register and dishes are to be returned by the customer), my table experienced some delays and mixed-up orders. I'm forgiving because we were many, and it's insignificant compared to the restaurant's many strengths. However, next time I would be inclined to add only the lowest tip option (18%) rather than the middle tip option (20%), as the act of bringing my dish to the table is not enough service to warrant that much of my money. I must also note that the prices are on the higher side; while they prevent someone like me from returning as often as I would otherwise prefer, I hope they are reasonable enough for those urbanites who can afford them more regularly. I certainly understand the necessity for a restaurant to sustain itself, and in this case, the quality of the food speaks volumes. P.S. Good music was playing.

Summer 2022 Review: Good food. Small menu. Efficient service. Spring rolls were made very quickly and tasted fresh, especially their peanut dipping sauce. Bright and clean interior. The food's healthiness is a great boon for this restaurant. I...

I never write reviews but just had to do so! My meal tonight from Blazing Star was so fresh, so beautiful, so delicious—it was like every taste of summer rolled into one delicious meal! Peach iced tea was so refreshing at the end of a long work day, corn chowder was so fresh and crisp and light, the tomatoes in the tzatziki bowl were bursting with sunshine sweetness, and the lemon blueberry cake with plump fresh blueberries finished off the meal perfectly. Loved it!! Thank you for these amazing flavors that reminded me of simple summers as a child. I feel nourished, happy and full of summer energy from that...

I have visited Blazing Star on multiple occasions dining in and taking out. I have tried every Bowl option and each time I am left with great flavors and a full stomach. Don't let a Vegetarian label trick you into thinking you'll be left hungry.

In person fresh out of the kitchen is best, but the take out is slick with online ordering and the meal holds up really well in the container if you can't eat it right away.

DON'T SLEEP ON THE MUSHROOMS! "I'm not a mushroom person" has no excuse. If you love flavor and protein, then you NEED to add mushrooms to your order.

Can't wait to visit again and try the...
