I went to eat at Mabe's Pizza with my husband, our 2 children, my mother and sister. The restaurant was nice and clean. Our server wasn't very nice, and the food wasn't as great as I remember it being when I was younger(the pizzas were much better years ago when I would go to the one in Cresco for family get togethers). When our server seated us, she didnt offer any crayons and coloring mat for our 4 year old, we had to ask. She got our drink orders, and asked if we wanted to order, we told her we would need a few minutes. She came back a couple more minutes later with the drinks and asked if we were ready yet. We told her we would need a little more time. When she came back we were ready to order. I ordered a Gluten Free Canadian bacon, sauerkraut, and jalapeno pizza, my husband ordered a Chef's Salad, our children had a Medium Sausage pizza. My mom and sister had order some kind of Sandwiches. My husbands salad was put up on the counter right away(but wasnt given it, it was left out the whole time they were cooking the other food), it also had boiled eggs which weren't mentioned on the menu. When all of the food was done was when she brought all the food out. She never asked if we wanted any refills until after we were done eating( I had called her back over when she was giving our food to ask for a refill for my daughter) My pizza was a bit burned on the edges and the sauce just wasn't like it used to be. So overall experience...
Read moreThe Decorah treasure. One of the area's most longstanding, storied, and popular dining establishments, its square-cut pizzas are classic and nostalgic to locals and those who grew up with them, and simple yet just right for many visitors who demand a stop for their pizzas (to eat fresh, to finish baking at home, or to take with them out of the county). Some who are looking for something else will surely not understand what we love about it, but Mabe's pizza just has an indescribable, comforting taste. The interior is equally comforting and traditional; nothing fancy, but homey. Great, friendly, longtime servers. Mabe's is family-owned, keeps their pizza recipes a closely-guarded secret, and has a casual, down-to-earth charm in every aspect. I sincerely hope it never changes! The Regular, along with Around the Garden (my favorite), seem their most popular items. I've enjoyed every pizza I've had from them and the lightly toasted cheese-topped garlic bread with marinara dipping sauce. Their burgers and sandwiches are also quite good! Tasty, affordable, good value. I daresay better than T-Bock’s, at least in the past decade. I'm told their other menu items are also good. Long...
Read moreArrived in town around 7:30p. The hotel room list of local food service promoted Mabe's and the menu looked decent. Placed an order for delivery and was told 45-60 minutes. An hour and a half later still no pizza. Called back and was told the delivery driver just left and should be here soon. After another 30 minutes called and was again told "any minute". Asked to speak with a manager who then informed me the order was "misplaced" and never left the restaurant. He then offered to have it made up and delivered in 30-45 minutes. Not sure what the food I liked but the service was terrible. The girl that took the original order seemed annoyed to be on the phone and made me repeat my order at least four times before "the computer system" would take it. My second call was another annoyed staff member that didn't even apologize for the delay. And on my third call the manager, Colby, brushed it off as an "honest mistake" with little apology and no offer to rush a pizza out to me. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The staff need to take some classes in general customer service because this type of service will send customers running with...
